The American Cartographer, Charles Desilver, bought the copyrights and plates of Mitchell's atlas of the same name and updated the maps and made some minor changes particularly ... morein the title block, added his own border style, choices of color and published the atlas from 1856 to 1859. The run of the Desilver atlas was more limited in number than the previous Cowperthwait publishing, thus the Desilver maps are the rarest of all the Mitchell maps published and difficult to find. A copy of the title page is included. Size: The map image measures approximately 11 1/2 by 14 inches on a 13 3/4 by 17" page. Condition: The map is in Good to Very Good condition for its age with overall tonal aging and original handcoloring as issued. Blank on the reverse, printed on a strong flexible page, not brittle, basically as seen in the pics. There is some darkening around the edges and some light stains in the margin, otherwise it is very clean with a nice anttique quality that would frame up nicely. Mueller's Atlas of Absecon Island. N.J. vol. 1, City of Atlantic City, published by A.H. Mueller in Philadelphia. 1914. A facsimile copy of the title page will also be included for authenticity. There is a copyright of 1914 by A.H. Mueller at the bottom of the map. There is an index tab mounted on the edge as issued. It is a rare map in a very large format compiled from"Actual Surveys, Official Records and Private Plans" as stated on the title page, no doubt produced primarily for city and real estate purposes. Overall, a very beautiful ... moremap well preserved with linen backing, made to last, in excellent condition for its age. See the gallery pics for close up details of owner lots, hotels, and various properties, piers, etc of Atlantic City in 1914. Size: The map image measures approximately 20 by 30 inches on a 22 by 32" page with a margin all around for framing as seen in the pic. Condition: The map is in Excellent condition with original hand coloring wash. A centerfold and with linen backing. There is some very minor darkening around the edges, otherwise it is very clean on a bright page with strong color that would frame up well, see the pics for more on condition.
