Hard to describe but this is a map drawn by Gil McCue. Does not look like something that was mass produced. Looks like art because of the woman in corn field on top left corner and the hatchet cross on lower right corner and old sailing ship on lower middle. Has all tribes in the region listed like the Canarsie. Merrick, Secatoag, Seatauket, Montauk, Hackinsack among others. Also noted are the Wappinger confederacy, Mahican/Mohegan confederacy and the Abenahi confederacy. Please note that I am not a Native American or art expert and I don't know the actual status of image as far as what it would be considered. I'm not sure of the exact age of this map(Most likely the 1980's) It has a somewhat typical laminated highway map on the front. But on the reverse it has a large map showing the Indian tribal locations and land sessions and another map showing the when and where the different regions of the state were colonized by white settlers. The surface of this ... moremap measures about 48" across and is about 70" tall. It also includes the built in mounting bracket so it's ready to install. The spring mechanism on this map works. But it's a little touchy. You sometimes need to pull it very slowly in order for it to catch into the open position, but it always works. The map does have some flaw including a few rough edges and other small flaws from several decades of use. The map depicts settlements. Indian and white towns, trails, American and European posts. And the major Ohio rivers and cities during the height of Native American settlement along side non-Native Americans in Ohio. The theme of the map is then" interaction" as well as settlement. The map labels the various regions of the state as to the ethnicities of the Indian Nations within Ohio, such as Wyandot. Delaware, Miami. And Iroquois(actually a political confederation) The map is flanked on either side.
