1770 Colonial North Carolina promissory note to future Governor Abner Nash
Original. Partly printed North Carolina promissory note made out to Abner Nash(1740-1786) lawyer, patriot and Governor of North Carolina from 1781-1782. He also served in the Continental Congress from 1782 until 1786. This note is dated August 2, 1770 and is given to Nash and signed by William Head of Grassy Creek, Granville County, North Carolina. Since this is pre-printed with Nash's name in the text, this is probably a business transaction. At the time this note was signed, Nash was a resident of New Bern. Joseph Monfort was also a Colonial Colonel in the Revolutionary War. A member of the Provincial Congress, and a Mason. Old Country Flatback Cupboard Raised Chamfered Panels Burnsville North Carolina
Old flat cupboard. Supposed to have originated in or around Burnsville, North carolina. that is where the family i bought it from said it came from. It has that mountain look about it, so i think it probably is from that area. the drawers are a different color, and that has been a mystery, BUT i am sure they are original to the piece, I just dont know if someone started to paint it, or they were going to paint all the panels and leave the rest natural, or what. A man I know who has seen many antique country and period pieces told me he had seen one or two others similar, brown drawers, the rest old black varnish, or whatever.Some of the pictures make the contrast seem drastic, others dont. the camera flash exaggerates the contrast, it is less noticeable in person, for sure. i think it is mostly like poplar and the shelving and back, maybe ... morepine, hard to tell, someone got happy with some blue paint inside! I think the back is beaded pine tounge and groove narrow boards, like old ceiling boards. it has 2 raised panels in each side, one in each lower door, and the drawers fronts are raised panel looking, they are thick drawer fronts. this has round nails mostly i think, not pegged, but maybe a nail here and there, where a peg might have otherwise been. They just built it however they built it, some is tounge and groove, and panelled, the lower doors are more like a rabbet joint, i think that is what you call it, country cabinetmaker's whatever hodgepodge, I am gonna build a cupboard construction, it is what it is. Besides the drawers. The rest of the exterior looks to be old black bubbley crazen vanish or shellac, whatever turns dark brown or black, and frogskins over the years. Antique Vintage Crib or Youth Flower Basket Quilt from Western North Carolina NR
This is an exceptionally nice crib or youth quilt 48 x 58 inches in size. It was purchased by us at a farm estate liquidation sale about 35 years ago near Hickory. N. C. Each quadrant of the quilt, front and back is shown in photos 2 through 9. Hand stitched and comprised of fabrics that appear to be from the early 1900's and maybe feed or flour sacks.This quilt retains part of the velcro hanging system that was installed by us as well as some small weights to keep it hanging straight. They could be used to hang it again or easily removed to use it as a throw or on a bed. The background, or field, is a beige or tan fabric, not white. There are a few stains that were present when we purchased it. This has been in a smoke free, climate controlled environment both in North Carolina and now in Florida.
