The top displays a beautiful picture of Victorian lovers in a secluded glade, surrounded by silver filigree work and blue enamel. Hinge and lid fit nice and tight. The inside is gold washed. Bottom inside is marked: Made in Austria, 409, Sterling Silver" and is accompanied by a small hallmark. Top inside lid is impressed with"409" The enamel is a beautiful blue color and is in overall good condition with normal wear and light abraision consistent with its age. There are two small"bruises" to the enamel along the top outside edge at 11:00 and 4:00. They are small and hardly noticeable. I have inclued several images of the top in an attempt to show them. VERY RARE Native American Indian Trade Brooch w/ MAKERS MARK Description. VERY RARE Native American Indian Trade Brooch w/ MAKERS MARK This is NOT a reproduction. ... moreThis is GUARANTEED 100% Authentic! This was found by my father while metal detecting. The brooch has a makers mark of TD. REAL broochs are extremely difficult to find! This would date possibly late 18th century. Found in Crawford Co. Illinois. Ive been contacted by one of the largest collectors of trade silver out of Canada and he also confirmed its authenticity. He definitly is an expert in this field and very knowledgeable. These were his comments on the mark. The fact the mark may not be found is common. It is a plus if a piece displays a mark. And sometimes it can add to the value considerably. There are 10's of thousands of marks, recorded, and many that are not recorded. I have one book of marks that have been recorded, but absolutely nothing is known about them other than the date recorded. It doesn't scare me to see a piece without a mark, or one with a mark I can't ID. Pieces with single individual letters for marks are not typical, and the letters generally have meaning to the maker only, this is because anyone with a set of stamps can copy them. When the letters are combined or conjoined in a stamp they are generally the maker's registered mark, and even the shape of the mark can ID a certain maker. I would have to examine yours under a microscope to determine if the upper mark is a maker mark, or a hall mark, that has been over stamped. One example of this would be when a hallmark might be a bust of a French ruler, and if the British were trading it to an Indian they might mark out the French rulers bust. Similar to what the Egyptians did with bad Pharos. The most common brooches are the simple ring brooches. The best trait to your brooch is the heart cutouts. Which are always desirable. and. Antique Pewter 8 3/4" plate American or English
Early plate just a hair under 8.75 inches across Unique and rare it is a very shallow plate under 1/2 inch Here is what I can say about this plate. While it has a tag that says American Henry Will which would place the plate as being made in the late 1700s. While it does have the characteristics of American make of that age. I cannot guarantee that it is a Will because the one reference I have on H Will marks does not seem to match although he did make 8.75" plates- as did other early American makers. Note the condition. Crack and hole in middle, bite" off rim, typical scratches and some light knife marks. Fine scratching all around the edge- almost seems like it was done on purpose to be decorative? Nice dark patina but not pitting through at all. About the marks- they are very faint. There looks to be the typical 4 small marks(sorry ... morecamera cannot do anything more to pick them up) The first looks to be a bird or eagle with wings spread. Second and third show a little but too far gone to venture a guess. Fourth could be the tops of initials. There may be a large touch that may be a lion rampant- but to be fair maybe I have my mind wanting some wear pattern to look like a touch- it is quite faint. So the markings are consistent with American make. But also with English makers. The booge is veryshallow and does not look to be hammered. Plate bottom has incribed circle line as do many American plates. So there it is. Issues but still very nice piece of pewter- and if you are better at identifying marks than I am, mabe you will find it to be as rare as I suspect. I have some other pewter listed. So take a look for possible combined shipping. Good luck and early bidding appreciated. Expertly packed so you get it in great shape. See my Positive Feedback and Buy with Confidence! QUESTIONS and COMMENTS Please email me with any questions or concerns or requests for other photos before bidding. Large antique handwrought antique pewter coffee pot American? 18/19th century
Description: Beautiful large handwrought pewter coffee pot with a handle that terminates in a heart at the bottom. Great flowing design. Substantial and well made. Appears to be handwrought, but I am not an expert. Not marked as to maker or country of origin. I always assumed this was late 19th century, along the lines of the Arts and Crafts and turn of the century English designers, but I saw a very similar one in a period film set in the Georgian period, so perhaps it's earlier. I am sure someone on ebay knows. Most of my items are vintage or antique and may have normal wear commensurate with age. Use and materials. I will mention any damage or flaws I see. Please review the pictures; they are an important part of the description. Please email me if you have any questions. Payment: Payment is due within 3 days of auction’s end. Paypal ... moreonly. Shipping: US shipping via USPS standard post due to weight; includes tracking/delivery confirmation. I ship within 3 business days(usually within a day) after payment is received. ANTIQUE EARLY AMERICAN PEWTER 8 3/4 to 9" PLATES 3 SCALLOPED 1 BOWL CHECK MARKS!
These plates come out of a house on Bluff Road in Amagansett where I ran an estate sale last year. I have been listing several other items from that house. And will continue to do so for next couple of weeks. It was an old house, but not as old as these plates. They all were used early America, but were they made in America? Please check touche marks. The first three are scalloped, nine inch plates. They are the first image you see. The first mark you see as you scroll down is on two of these plates. Gershon Jones? Beats me. The third is by the second mark you see as you scroll down. This one is really cool to me, hope it is American. Then there is a nine inch, 3/4 inch deep bowl, really cool engraved initials of owner, F. H. Touch mark is 7th image down, I don't think American, but I know nothing. It is real early, that is for sure. ... moreFinally, there is an 8 1/2 inch plate, shows good amount of honest wear, touch mark includes"P.D. Book: NOTES ON ANTIQUE AMERICAN PEWTER & PEWTERERS - Nice 1926 LIMITED EDITION
Some Notes on American Pewterers” By Louis Guerineau Myers. Printed for Louis Guerineau Myers by the Country Life Press in 1926. Edition limited to 1000 copies. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: The second study of American pewter and pewterers. As a whole, after J.B. Kerfoot's monumental and still important 1924 study. Myers notes in his Foreword- These notes represent some mild incursions into the realms of early American pewter, inspired by Mr. Kerfoot's splendid work on the subject, and partly, of course, by the possession of a fairly comprehensive collection of examples by American pewterers" Certainly, as Ames& Ward point out, in the 21st century Myers' slender but elegant book is"now principally of historiographical interest" yet that interest certainly remains. Louis Guerineau Myers ... morewas among the pioneering collectors of American decorative arts in the first decades of the 20th century. Fellow collector R.T.H. Halsey wrote an appreciation of Myers after his death for the 1932 auction catalog of his collection of antique American furniture. Silver, pewter and accessories, in which he notes- He knew infinitely more about the touch of the old time craftsman and the wiles of the present day forgers than those of us who frequently called upon him. His judgment was unerring. There is no one to take his place. His ability and zeal as a collector has long been evidenced in his collections, and his much sought-after advice greatly improved the quality of several of the important collections of American furniture assembled during the past decade. It is safe to say that had not Louis Guerineau Myers lived, the knowledge of much of the excellence of craftsmanship of our eighteenth century cabinetmakers would not yet have been known to us. He led the way" DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 7"x10.5" Xiii + 96 pages, plus 70 black& white plates. CONDITION NOTES: The covers have some light wear and soil(please see the photos. The chalice has a formed stem emanating from the base and carrying a goblet with straight sides ending in an outwards flared rim. The goblet has ribbing towards the bottom. Please see page 93(no. 186) in Peter Hornsby's book"Pewter Of The Western World 1600-1850" published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd in Exton PA for a similar chalice from the 19th century attributed to Calder. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Uncertain but most likely circa 19th century Origin: Was purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Size: The base measures ~3 3/4" ... morein diameter at the base. ~3 1/4" in diameter at the top and is 6" high(exactly the same dimensions of the item in the Hornsby book) The piece weighs about 12.3 ounces. Maker: Uncertain. But could be William Calder. Marks: Unmarked. Distinguishing Characteristics- Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a very nice antique American pewter chalice that would display nicely in your collection. It is really a substantial piece weighing about 12.3 ounces. Condition: It is in relatively good condition given its age and utilitarian function. The piece is intact with no breaks. Cracks, repairs or losses. It has a warm gray age patina, which looks great. It does have scratches throughout and it has some minor defect and graying of the surface due to pitting? on the stem, which can be seen in the third and seventh photos. This seems to be excess pewter or solder residue and most likely an artifact of the manufacturing. It does have some general wear commensurate with its age and utilitarian function. It also has some soiling as well as some staining, which could most likely benefit from a good cleaning, but we leave that to the new owner. Finally, the biggest issues we see are

ANTIQUE LARGE ALL PEWTER STEIN POSSIBLY EARLY AMERICAN BEER DRINKING
Measures 8 ¼ inches tall from the base to the opening rim edge 10 ½ to the top of the finial. Base diameter is 5 ½ inches. 3 ½ inch diameter across the opening top. Actual weight is 3 pounds 5 ounces. Experienced collectors will recognize this as a very old Stein. It’s been rode hard and put away wet but it is seriously old aged. Possibly back to the late 1700s. Just as found dust and all found at an old ancestral home yard sale in Wisconsin. It’s heavy extra thick pewter so I don’t know how in the world it ever got bent down the way it is at he front. Must of fallen bottom first off a shelf or a table to hard floor at some point in it’s history. I can find no makers marks any where. Who knows maybe an Early American made piece. Someone scratched in initials HL on the lid. Probably a former owner at some point. No leaks ... morebut looks like some old solder repairs at the base.
