The secretary can be found on page#131 in the 80th edition of the Ethan Allen Treasury of American Traditional Interiors. Ethan Allen describes their Georgian Court line as having. The secretary base measures 36.5" wide x 41" high x 19" deep and features five drawers and a drop front with lock with key. There are cubbies inside the desk base as well as two drawers. The drawers are very clean inside. This secretary was manufactured in January. 1980 and is in excellent condition overall with a few exceptions. There are light dings and one more noticeable ding on the front of the secretary where it drops down(see pics#10, 11) There are also a few tiny chips low on the front two feet and one chip on the very back side of the secretary top. It is not very noticeable when it is against the wall, unless you are looking at the back(see pic#12) The Ethan Allen name is stamped in the top drawer and the date as well as the item number are stamped on the back. Sir(Sydney) Gordon Russell(1892-1982) was one of the most important figures in the history of 20th century furniture. From his early Cotswold Arts and Crafts furniture. To the modernist antique desks of the post-war period, he managed to embrace mass production and mechanization without losing the underlying concepts of high quality craftsmanship. The history of his antique cabinets, tables, chairs and concept furniture can be tracked at the Gordon Russell Museum, housed in his original workshop premises in Worcestershire. In 1923 Russell expanded the business and invested in modern machinery. His aim was to combine Arts and Crafts workmanship with ... moremass-production to produce high quality furniture affordable to everyone. After acquiring it in an auction in the UK. We recently imported this secretary to our showroom and warehouse in Atlanta. Overall it remains in very good condition! The flame mahogany displays a rich complexion ... moreand a striking grain that have only grown more beautiful over the years. In complement to the mahogany. Traditional satinwood fan inlay adorns the center of the fall. A few nicks and wear marks add character to the wood, although there are not many and they are mostly concentrated around the base, which is normal for a piece of this age. Meanwhile, a series of brass swan neck pulls adorn the drawer fronts. The desk area itself is inlaid with a rich writing surface of fine, brown leather bordered by gold tooling. As far as we can tell, this leather appears in the condition as other vintage leather samples that we’ve come across, so it is most likely original.
