MERVINIA COMITATUS, Merioneth & Montgomery, c1660, Probably Jansson
This is an authentic seventeenth century map. Slightly puzzling because while it’s entitled Mervinia Comitatus it should really be called Mervinia Comitatus& Montgomeria Comitatus because it covers both Merioneth and Montgomery. I haven’t been able to track down this version on the internet. But I suspect it’s by Jansson. The sheet measures approx 54cm x 43cm with a vertical centrefold as issued. The engraving platemark is clearly visible the whole way round. Hand coloured. Though I suspect a combination of original and modern. Dutch text to the verso. For a number of reasons I can only describe the condition as fair. Though the big positive is that the map looks lovely– a clear dark impression with very attractive colouring. In terms of the condition issues the centrefold has splits and damage in the past; now supported with old paper ... moreon the verso, there are slivers of that paper visible top and bottom of the fold and one small loss on the map area, with a small tear(see scan below) it's best not to fold the map anymore! The paper is browned, more-so towards the top. There is a small amount of pale speckled spotting. There are several edge tears, one that reaches into the printed border area. Along the centrefold there is some light parallel creasing where the original binding was on the verso and this is a little darker than the rest of the map. Overall though still extremely decorative. The verso is more browned. With some squiggly browning following the lines of original paint. There are two edge repairs and one repair to the tear coming from the centrefold. All the text remains visible and clear. The map will be posted rolled in a wide-diameter posting tube. The bad news is that the tube will have to be longer than 45cm so first class postage is £5.65 plus £1.10 for the tube plus 75p for the ebay 10% commission’ on postage. Many thanks for looking. Any questions. Or if you need more images, then please don’t hesitate to ask. PHOTOGRAPH OF THE MAP PHOTOGRAPH OF THE VERSO SCAN OF A SECTION OF

Late 18th Century Colour Map of Carnavonshire - Welsh Interest
Very attractive colour map of Carnavonshire which. According to the inscription on the back, is from circa 1787. Names of printer and engraver also noted in the inscription- see photo#4. I am not an expert on antique maps and I have no reason to doubt the inscription so I take it as fact. It is framed and double glazed so that the verso side of the map description is also visible. It has a couple of foxing spots. Quite normal for its age, otherwise in very good condition. Size of image 24.5cm x 18.5cm. Overall 39cm x 33cm. The double glazing makes it quite heavy. It will require extra packing as well. Shipping will be $70 by EMS courier. Fast, trackable and insured.

Original c1610 Saxton Kip map 'Cardigan Comitatus Pars Olim Dimetarum'
Cardigan comitatus pars olim dimetarum’ From the 1610 edition of Camden's Britannia. This edition is the second state. The title is in an elaborate cartouche top left with compass rose beneath it. Scale of distance bottom right. Watermarked paper. This series of maps were the first in which each county was deliniated on a separate sheet. They were prepared by William Kip and William Hole and were mainly based on those of Christopher Saxton and Norden. The first issue of these maps was in 1607 with Latin text on the back of the maps and as the paper on which they are printed is rather thin, the lettering sometimes shows through on to the front of the map. In the subsequent two editions of 1610 and 1637 the maps had no text on the back and plate numbers were added to many maps for the 1637 edition. Copper engraving with later hand colouring. ... moreGenerally good condition with no holes or tears wide margins not always found with these maps, The printed area measures 265 x 332 mm the sheet size being 320 x 400 mm, the map has slight foxing.I will post rolled in a strong plan tube.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fvo%7B%3Dd70f%2Bf%60%60%3E-1457fc6e766-0x113-
