Llanelly, Port Talbot together with a large scale plan of Penclawdd. RRP £2.50 This reprint first published September 2004 England and Wales Sheet 247 Small scale map an Inch to the Mile_ Description of Map These are the Alan Godfrey maps and have a wide reputation for good quality maps at a fantastic price. Quote from a well respected London Bookshop" Fascinating series of reproductions of old Ordnance Survey plans in the Alan Godfrey Editions. Ideal for anyone ... moreinterested in the history of their neighbourhood or family. Selected towns in Great Britain and Ireland are covered by maps showing the extent of urban development in the last decades of the 19th… This is a brand new black& white folded map taken from the famous OS"Inch to the Mile" Maps. Though obviously far less detailed than the large scale maps for which we are perhaps better known. They provide an invaluable overview of a wider area, typically 18 miles across by 12 miles down. For transport historians they are invaluable for showing old railways, while all historians need them for their close depiction of topography, including parish boundaries. This reprint map is taken from the Ordnance Survey one inch map 247 as revised in 1904. With railway revision to 1910. It shows the area, around Swansea and Mumbles Head, from Llanelly to Port Talbot; on the reverse is a large scale

Original John Speed map of DENBIGHSHIRE, c1611-1623, Sudbury & Humble
A lovely example of an original copper-plate engraving dated 1610(in reality published between 1611 and 1623) by John Sudbury and George Humble. The plate area measures approx 51.5x38.5cm on a sheet approx 55x43cm. Later hand colouring. Town plan shows Denbigh. Description of the county in English on verso with a list of towns and villages. In terms of condition. It's a good early map. At first view I'd say evenly toned, but there is a distinct margin change in tone about 1/3 way down, visible in the margins but not in the printed area. A dark and clear impression; very clean; the printed area is free of any unsightly foxing or uneven browning; a couple of spots towards the bottom of the centrefold. There are two symmetrically opposite small holes just in from the top printed border; to show size I've included an image of the ... moreone that's in the ocean against a pink background. Also four tiny worm holes at the bottom of the centrefold, two on the printed border and the other two just outside(see image) Some marks and light staining in the margins but little impact; one small closed tear, not reaching the plate mark. Verso likewise very clean and sharp; some soiling along the centrefold where the paste would have been. There are remnants of mounting tape on the top edge. Overall a lovely example. Postage in the UK is free. Postage overseas will be by the Royal Mail tracked service. Please note I will not post to countries not covered by the tracked service; if in doubt then please ask me before bidding) Many thanks for your interest in this map. Please let me know if you have any questions.
