This is a very old wood and metal crucifix with a leather case. It has been handed down in the family through at least 4 generations. I know that it pre-dates 1946 because there is documentation that it was received as a gift by my mother-in-law by her father in June 1946. And it had belonged to him previous to that. The metal on the crucifix is in excellent condition. The wooden cross is in very good condition. The leather case is very worn and the leather has separated at the flap's fold. Vintage Cross Crucifix Bubble Glass Frame Convex 20" Long Art Deco This superb icon features a gold toned crucifix with a silvertone Christ. The background is a pastel-colored lithograph with a r esurrection sunburst at the base of the frame. The scene is embellished with a delicate. Colorful arrangement of dried flowers, which seems especially appropriate for Easter. The frame is a silvertone hammered tin with elaborate cast spelter'edges. The flowers have original hand painted details in green and pink. The frame measures approximately 20" tall and 11.5" wide and this is about 1.75” or so-ish thick. It has the original metal backing and a wire should be added to replace the string on the back for hanging. The convex bubble glass is good. Solid and without damage. Please note that the photos show the picture glass as a ... morelittle cloudy but it is not. The convex glass is very clear and what your seeing is just lights reflecting off the glass. Antique EARLY carved wood Corpus Christ Crucifix 42" processional / Chapel Cross
This is an antique hand carved wood Corpus Chris crucifix from a local estate. It measures 42 1/4" long x 25" wide. With Chris figure 18 5/8" tall from fingertip to toes. Based on the size, we believe that it would have originally have been a processional cross in a large church/ cathedral, or possibly hung in a chapel. It is not marked in any way, so we're not exactly sure where it was made. The cross appears to be mahogany or similar type wood and date from the late 1800/ early 1900's. The corpus is pine or spruce type wood. And has very old surface and traces of original paint that we believe dates it earlier than the cross by several hundred years(see images) Also, there are holes in cross and corpus that do not correspond to each other possibly indicating an early repair or pairing of two crosses. It features good ... moreworkmanship, with expressive features. It is in as-found condition, with decades of dust and good surface patina(see images) It displays nicely. The only only thing that we see to mention is the corpus left arm glue joint is slightly loose at left shoulder. And there is a small chip at the tip of right foot(concealed by left foot) a tiny chip to left fingertips(see images) It's a very nice early antique carved crucifix, with good size and proportions.
