Description:Antique brass processional Coptic Cross. This beautiful item is ornately carved in brass mount for a wooden handle. It is absolutely stunning in person. The top looks like they didn't quite get it squared off when carving so the top pattern is slightly off kilter. I can't imagine the amount of man hours put into this item. Nice patina. But would polish up nicely if you wanted it shiny. This would make a beautiful show piece. It is not marked or stamped anywhere I can find. This Cross belongs to the group of processional crosses which accompanies each procession of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. It has a hollow shaft for mounting on a wooden handle. So that it can be carried above the heads of people in processions and religous ceremonies. The two lower arms are made for the hanging of the cloth which accompanies the Cross when it is carried by the deacons.The Cross is handcrafted. PLEASE SEE PICS FOR VISUAL DESCRIPTION DETAILS. This is an excellent silver metal alloy processional cross of a nice large size: 34 cm/13.5" tall x 21cm/8" wide. You can see the molded Madonna and Child surrouded by winged cherubim on three sides. On the back is more cheribum and Amahric script translated at something like"lion" and"King of Kings" Very beautiful and special piece. More figurative than most. Quite heavy.

Elegant Large Coptic Steel Cross
This piece is a beautiful. Yet simple, large steel cross, of a Coptic cross style, I believe. The cross has no markings or text anywhere on it. And based on the weight(nearly an ounce) I would guess the metal to be steel. The detailing on the front is excellent. And I see no flaws anywhere on the piece. The cross weighs around 21 grams. And is a bit over 3 inches(8 CM) in length. A very nice cross. This listing was made by the family of Karen Doreen Hartsoe Koontz. Whose Franciscan order name was Sister Luke Panteleimon. Sister Luke passed away on 8/24/2013. From liver failure. She was 55. While it would never even occur to us to sell the things she valued. Much of what she left behind was simple stock-only a simple rosewood rosary and a few other objects meant anything of significance to her personally. In her last days. She mourned that ... moreher stock items were not being sold-she saw her role on eBay as much as a vocation as any other role. To provide inexpensive and beautiful religious items to people who would have a hard time affording them otherwise. Given this. Simply offloading her stock as a large estate sale or, even worse, for scrap metal. Seems abhorrent. As such, we our trying our best to sell the remainder of her stock out as she would have wanted. Beautitful rare wooden Ethiopian Othodox blessing hand cross. Hand carved wood with gorgeous basketweave pattern and hand painted icons in two places. In very good condition over all. But it looks like the wood on the bottom piece may have split at some point and was repaired. I've had this item since 1998 and assume it is much older than that, so it seems it was a good repair job. Please see the pictures for close up looks at the area in question.
