This is a nice piece of architectural salvage which I had hung above a double window in my breakfast room. It is now up for auction since I no longer need it. It measures 30" Wide x 7" H and is 2" thick at the top since it has an applied piece joined to it. It is wired and ready to hang or whatever use you have. I believe the shell or fan design designates this piece to be Queen Anne or the American Colonial period. The fan or shell at the top has a small piece missing which is barely noticable when hanging on a wall. I'm sure a little wood filler could take care of it. This solid looking shelf makes a bold statement wherever you decide to hang and use it. It hangs by two brass hooks, fastened to the back, so that when something is set atop of it, it will not sway to one side of the other and the shelf will set firmly on the wall. The back has been hollowed out to reduce some of it's weight, though two properly positioned screws into anchors in the wall should allow a good amount of weight to be placed upon the shelf. The top of the shelf is a nicely crafted solid oak board with nicely cut edges along the front and sides. The cartouche itself is a gorgeous hand carved acanthus leaf with a drop down finial at the bottom supporting ... morethe shelf. Little to no original finish is left, so I believe a natural or dark finish is all that's needed to make this piece pop. Rustic Primitive Vintage Iron Pediment Baluster or? Oak Leaves& Acorns Black Busybusybusy treasure hunting week for you. I shopped at a closing antique store. Went to the flea market, and still have some items from the weeks ago farm estate auction- there’s lots of neat stuff that you don‘t want to miss! The mighty oak is one of my favorite trees. So I never pass up a gorgeous old acron or oak leaf. This piece- I think that it is made of both iron and steel. It's an old architectural piece, and I'm not sure exactly what it was, but it reminds me of the old stair balusters- like the kind that you'd find on the front steps going up to the door with the rail. There's a heavy/thicker outside frame that I do believe is iron. It's made from two long pieces, each having one"finger" for lack of a better word that ... moresticks out at the short end- so one finger on each end, and the fingers are 2 1/2" long- clearly once used to connect to whatever they connected to. Then, inside the iron frame, you have another frame that is attached- running the perimeter of the iron frame, it has the decorative design of oake leaves and acorns on the inside. This piece, I think is steel- and I don't know if it's cast, or pressed, but my guess is pressed into shape because you can see the details of the leaves/acorns on both sides of the piece- but there's clearly a front side and a backside. I'm showing you fist the front side details and then the backside details in my photos. The frame measures 19 1/2" long(not including the fingers- just under 25" long in total including the fingers) by 7 3/8" wide. You can see that the two sides of the frame are not attached at the ends- see photo X. I think that this is not original, I think that this may have occured(and it's like this on both sides) when the piece was removed from whatever it was attached to before. You can push on those two open spots and get them to move slightly back and forth. It doesn't affect the center

Reclaimed 1800's Architectural exterior Oak Pediment
This Antique Pediment(header) was reclaimed from a house built in the 1860's that was torn down. The corbels I have listed came from the same home. This home was historic in that it was an underground railroad stop along the Ohio River in my home town. Just prior to the home being torn down I was able to purchase a few architectural items that I reclaimed and repurposed. Since that time my decor has changed and these items no longer work. This pediment was repurposed as a coat rack and is ready to hang for the same purpose. Given the fact that it is oak. The buyer may wish to strip the many layers of paint and show the original wood. There is a shelf at the top with a crown molding below. The breast has nice carved festoons. It is 73 inches long. 12 tall and is 4.5 inches deep. Overall. It is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning but will clean up nicely. The shelf along the top does not sit flush on the wall. This is a an exceptional carved oak pediment or panel with a large carved Griffin or Lion face center medallion. It measures aprox. 37 1/2" wide x 8 1/2" high x 3" deep. Overall it is in good condition. No missing carvings but there are three breaks in the carvings, just to the right of his chin, on the far right and another on the right side as well, we provided pictures that show these areas. Lovely Antique Arts & Crafts Carved Oak Architectural Trim Piece
