RARE Vintage WWII St. George Slaying the Dragon Bronze Easter Mass Rosary Medal
These vintage rosary medals were cast during WWII in Italy. To give as gifts to wounded Catholic soldiers at US Army Field Hospitals, and were ordered by Chaplain William Richard Arnold, the Chief of Chaplains, U.S. Army, from 1937-1945. Few of these medals were ever minted. And fewer ever turn up for auction; we have a very few remaining from Chaplain Bill’s 1965 New York estate, left to me by my mother Bertha, the founder of Church-Woman Antiques, who passed away in 2010 at age 97) You are bidding on one of those medals; it is 1.5 inches in diameter. And has 11 beads around the circumference, so that it may be used as a chaplet, or a rosary. It may be worn on a necklace, kept in your pocket, or placed on a key-chain. Then, I went to an antique liquidation barn sale– Brrrrr was it cold, but so worth it. Then, I stopped by an auction just in time to get most of my favorites– boy, I’ve been busy! I’m so excited to show you what I have! Lots of antiques; primitive to retro to deco to Victorian pretties, advertising, Americana folk art and just cool stuff. This listing is for the beautiful amber colored glass rosary that you see in my photos. I bought it inside of the leather cast that will come with it. The case ... moreis black leather, marked, My Rosary, in gold on the outside and, Genuine Morroco, for the origin of the leather on the inside. The case is lined with blue velvet that shows some wear(see photo 7) but it's general, with no holes, rips, etc. It's in really nice overall condition and has protected the rosary well. The rosary is just lovely. Whether or not it was originally with the case, I do not know. I think the case is not as old as the rosary(although still vintage) I do think the rosary could be old enough to be antique. See my photos and what you think. The rosary measures 23" long and the cross at the bottom measures 1 1/2" by 7/8" Now, the cross is a gold or brass color- my guess is brass, because that looks like the natural color of the metal to me, not a finish, and the back of the cross almost has the dark color of copper. It is not marked, but I did check, because I thought that it might be real gold- but without the mark, I'm going with brass. As you can see from my photos, the former owner added at least three medals at the bottom, and then there's another small medal up on the rosary that I do not know if it was original or added. Th

~ANTIQUE French Brass Victorian ROSARY Filigree Brass Saint Therese Rhinestone Box ~. ~BEAUTIFUL~ This is a Victorian Rosary with 59 red round glass faceted beads. The middle medal is a Beautiful Miraculous Medal. The brass crucifix is 1 1/8" long and hallmarked France on the back. The entire Rosary is right at 13 1/2" long hanging length. This special Rosary comes in a brass filigree St. Therese box. With her likeness opalescent in bubble glass in middle with four green rhinestones on the lid.
