Antique Art Nouveau Garnet Glass Rosary
This is such a lovely rosary made between 1900-1915. Made of garnet glass beads and metal. The metal has the perfect darkened patina from age. The cross reads. IHS which stands for, leusus Hominum Salvator"which in english translates to, Jesus Saviour of Men. It also has a banner which reads INRI which is latin for, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. In very good condition.the rosary measures 18.5" long hanging. The cross itself measures 1.75" x 1.25" A gorgeous rosary with beads that look like realistic garnets even though they are made of glass. A welcome addition to any rosary collector. Antique ART NOUVEAU DECO Italian Garnet Glass SACRED HEART Rosary Beads 17"
Up for auction is a vintage rosary made of garnet glass and white glass beads with what seems to be brass. It was most likely made in the 1920's or 1930's as it has both Art Nouveau and Art Deco elements; the crucifix is an art nouveau design with a thin maroon celluloid layer over the metal with the metal pieces riveted to the cross; it measures 1 1/8" high x 3/4" wide; there may have been a silver plating over the metal but it is oxidized so it is hard to tellthis rosary is a bit different than those I've seen in the past as it only has 6 beads& not 10 in the longer stations(maybe this is a child's rosay? the center piece has the Sacred Heart in a heart frame on the front. I'm having a hard time seeing what is on the back. The length is a bit shorter, 17" the back of the cross is not marked; it is ... morestill in fai rl y good condition with no broken beads and no major chips on the beads but is not perfect as it is vintage. The main flaw is some tarnishing of the metal components. This is not too noticeable. Most people would need this pointed out to them. I only mention this as I am very picky& want to be as detailed as possible in my description so that you know what to expect. What a great addition this would make to any rosary collection!
