For the artisan to carve and burn the design. This particular plaque is 17 x 12 inches featuring 3 monks. The back is stamped Flemish Art 670 with a hand written inscription from 1909. Amazing condition for 100 years old shows some minor markings and 4 small drill holes, which can easily be repaired or used to hang something from the plaque. Wonderful collector item. But have no place for a desk set to be displayed. There are 5 pieces with one having a lid. The big dovetail box is a stretch out cigarette holder storage box. It has little ball legs on the bottom. The box measures 5in. x 3 1/2in. x 6in. The mushroom style container could of held matches or stamps. It is 1 1/2in. deep and with the lid on it's 2 1/2in. tall. The domed lid has 2 1/2in. diameter. The other little pedestal bowl- maybe paper clips. It measure 1 1/2in. x 2in. These three pieces are in very good condition. ... moreThe memo pad has a very detailed. Geometric designed lid with color, a used memo pad, and measures 6 1/2in. x 3 3/4in. The oilcloth type green fabric is wrinkly, but looks like it can be removed. The last piece is rocking ink blotter. I didn't take off the old blotter, but it's a piece that you change the blotter as it gets used up. It measures 5 1/2in. x 3in. with a 1 1/2in. x 1 1/4in. knob. It's also very decoratively burned with a geometric pattern with color. Simple fixes cloth and new blotter makes these two pieces in very nice condition. What I'm offering for sale is an antique wall plaque of Pyrography. Or sometimes called Flemish Art. It's the art of woodburning. This plaque was made by Jas. H. Pierce in 1909. The front is a picture of a framed horse, very artfully done. The back is also very interesting. The back is the artist's sketches of his three daughters, their names and places of residence; almost like a woodburning doodle. It's dated and signed Jan. 7th, 1909. The condition is amazing for 104 years old. The wood has darkened with its age and there's a small scratch on the front right side. The wood plaque is 7" x 9" with two hooks(which go through to the front) and string for hanging on the back. The stand shown in the pictures is not included in this sale. This vintage/antique item came from an estate. I'm not sure of its original function as it almost seems too pretty to be a cutting board. Yet there is no hanging apparatus on the back to indicate it was a decorative wall hanger. The subject matter is a lady dressed in traditional Dutch clothing lifting her skirt! This item measures 5& 3/4" in diameter. The markings on the back are really nicely preserved and says: FLEMING ART, FLEMISH QUALITY 850 IS STANDARD, NEW YORK. Description Nice large early Brewster and Ingrahams eight day key wind wall clock with paper label marked gallery and office clocks movement also marked Brewster& Ingrahams Bristol Ct. U.S. Wood case and dial with original early hand blown thin glass. Case measures 20" in diameter x 3 1/2" deep. Spring is good and not over wound. I can get it to run for a couple minutes but the movement needs a good cleaning and oiling, missing the two hands and the pendulum, case has some wear but is in remarkably good condition for over 160 years old some nicks and paint loss no cracks or breaks, see pictures. Gorgeous piece of American folk art. Depicting a male deer or elk( drinking at a stream, with smaller deer in the background. The border is also an elaborate pyrographic design, and in my humble opinion, this is a hand done, artist's rendering, not burned from a template, as the borders are slightly different widths. Please note that there is one pinprick knick in the center, just above and the left of the deer's rump, and there are several light knicks on the very edge of the left hand side, please see the photos. This is a beautiful very large pyrography picture. The Coke can is so you can see how big it is. I love to lean this against the wall and layer items in front of it. It is 21 inches tall by 13 3/4 inches wide. There are some small chips on the edges that you can hardly see. On a piece like this I don't believe it hurts the value- a little stain would fix it.

Although this lovely plaque is not marked as to maker. It's done in the style of similar pieces done by a U.S. company called Flemish Art, which also featured pyrographed wooden plaques. There is nice attention to detail on the subject, and the pyrography extends to the sides of the plaque as well. I'm speculating that the subject is a Dutch or European girl or woman as the subject is wearing wooden clogs. It measures approx. 12& 1/2" long and 8& 1/4" wide, and has a hole drilled at the top for hanging. The back is blank There are traces of gold paint along the border on the front. I've cleaned it with Murphy's Oil Soap. Overall condition is good and clean, but there are surface scratches and some marks on both sides. Flemish Art Burnt Wood Pyrography Heart Wall Hanging Two Children
A Flemish Art Company wooden heart. With two children. The little girl is hugging and kissing the little boy, who appears to be a bit unhappy about the situation! I believe this dates back to 1911- someone put a modern day fabric around the edge. And used a glue gun which covers the date. I am selling another one which is also dated April 30 but shows 1911 so I suspect these are from the same event. I am leaving the removal of the fabric to someone with more expertise than I have! It is signed with Many Happy Returns of the Day to Sophie from Lavan, and has the two bear Flemish Art logo. The heart measures 9-1/2 by 9-1/2 not counting the fabric ruffle. Antique 1906 Flemish Art Pyrography Victorian Lady Wood Plaque
Antique 1906 Flemish Art pyrography Victorian lady wood plaque which measures approximately 8 1/2" wide and approximately 11 1/2" long. Plaque is marked on the back with the month. Date and year as shown in our picture, also on the back are initials as shown in our picture. Plaque has a crack on the bottom running from the bottom rim up about 2" crack doesn't go through to the back, there is also a crack on the top of the plaque which measures approximately 2 1/4" long, this crack goes from the backside to the front and was apparently caused when someone put the metal pin through it for hanging purposes. Front of plaque has lines running through the wood, lines appear to be a result of the wood being older? Underneath are tulips. Very nice condition. Especially for something that was made in the late 1800's easy 1900's. Some of the edges have been re-glued nicely. A few minor surface scratches. Measures a generous 17" tall. Ready to hang. The word“pyrography” means“writing with fire. It's sometimes called“pokerwork” because the design is burned into the wood with a thin pokerlike tool. The earliest examples were done in China more than 2.000 years ago. The technique became popular in the United States in the late 1800s, when a method of coloring the designs by using benzoline was developed.
