Antique Victorian Deco 25x18 Gilt Carved Wood Wall Plaque Hanging w/ Silk Tassel
Bought from a estate sale of a condemned Victorian mansion in Los Angeles. California. I personally helped the estate rep. pull them off the wall. Stunning antique Victorian/Art Deco LARGE carved wood wall plaques. I am not positive what wood it is made from. The grain looks like mahogany. And they are VERY HEAVY. Carved from a solid piece of wood. I am not certain if the paint is original, it looks waterbase to me. 4 crude nail holes(corners) from mounting them, some splitting around the holes. Other than that, the wood is in all around great condition. There's a metal mounting bracket in the back. Carved wood wall pocket or planter. Victorian antique gilt or gold finish with elegant flowing floral and leaf pattern. Galvanized pocket insert. Measures 16.5" height by 17.5" wide and extends from wall 4" There are some natural cracks and craze lines in the paint. The planter area is 7" length by 2" wide and 3" deep. The intricate carved sections are applied to wood backing and are most likely gesso. Plaster or ceramic. I see no major damage or missing sections. Just some minor wear to existing pieces. Carved Real Wood Back and Top Sconce Shelf Gold Gilt scroll wall vintage UNUSUAL
Great old addition to any room of your home. Straight from the estate sale of a 90 year old Doctor. The backing of shelves and top appear to be made of wood with the front design looking to be more of a plaster type material. One chip shown in last photo shows how the wooden back looks as if it were attached to front. This area could probably be touched up with some gold paint and never noticed. The wooden backing was cut in the design of the front piece but as you can see in photos they aren't a perfect match. Please zoom in and you should be able to see what I am trying to explain. They are a very pretty pair and are in nice condition especially for their age. Could easily be repainted to match any decor. This is a pretty gold gilt wood carved wall shelf. It is not marked but is Italian Florentine style. It measures 19 in. across-5 1/2 n. from front to back-5 3/4 in. from top to bottom of leg. The legs are curved back so that they touch the wall and have a very decorative design. There are hairline cracks where legs are connected-see pictures. One of the metal loops for hanging is missing. Tags on back of each say: Printed in red: Made in Italy" and hand written in blue ink: 23031" MEASUREMENTS: 26 1/2" tall by 16 5/8" with top and bottom carvings included. 4 3/4" Deep. Shelf are is 14 1/2" wide by 10 3/4" tall at its tallest and 3 1/2" Deep. These are quite old and appear to have never been re-gilted. So there are chips and scratches. The hand carved wooden scroll at the bottom of one of them has a break in it, but is still attached. Handling fee is for packing and insurance. They each have a small 1 1/2 inch plate groove across the top of the shelves. Hand carved hand painted wood Original stain/gilt Delicate design and carve The top plate shelves are a little loose but can be easily remedied with some wood glue(I tend to let antique buyers decide which repairs they deem necessary as I would hate to devalue an item with unneeded/unwanted repairs)otherwise. The shelves are in working order. There is a foil label on the back of each that states they were hand crafted in Japan. This auction is for an gorgeous pair of Italian wall sconces. These are really nice. They measure almost 4 1/2 inches long and 4 inches wide. Beautiful scroll and swirl carving with gilt finish. The accurate color gilt is more so in photo 2. One has 2 original hooks for hanging. The other needs hooks which are easily to replace. One has a missing swirl but it was touched up mask the the defect somewhat and a minor crack is visible only on the back side. Otherwise it is solid. I believe these were from the 40's. These sconces have not been spray painted, as some of the other's I've seen. They are made of solid wood, not plastic, and hand carved. They bear the usual marks of sconces of this age.
