Massive Wood and Iron Oxen Bench 18th Century 68"Tall x 59"Wide
It’s made of hundreds of hand forged iron stringers pinned by iron and bronze round and square pins. It is decorated with hundreds of various shaped spangles. Stars and etc. Has several heavy attaching rings and eyelets for anchoring this massive bench. It is obviously very stable in spite of its age. The bench had to be the result of hundreds of hours by journeymen. Blacksmith and wood workers. Looks like early or mid 18th century. Not sure of the age but definitely very old. The cushion looks like it was made and added later and it works fine on it. I believe this piece really belongs in a museum! Pick up is best for this hugh piece. American 18th Century Chippendale Period Mahogany Antique Stool Window Bench
Click for a slideshow of detailed pictures! American Chippendale Period Mahogany Stool Circa 1770-90. Probably New England This is an absolute treasure! Fully original and well preserved. This stool of the Chippendale period was probably crafted in the New England states as a companion for a Wingback Chair or other large arm chair of healthy proportions. With a tall height of 20" it would have been a companion to something with a thick upholstered seat in the 22-24" range. It is crafted with precision, using matched pine corner blocks nailed with four rose heads, a clearly successful mechanism as all are fully retained and the stool is incredibly sturdy. The rails of the stool tenon into the square legs, pinned at each corner and reinforced on a few corners with later(presumably) screws. The legs are plain and precise, chamfered ... morealong the back corner for visual appeal. The outermost corner of each leg has a single reed carved, and the rim around the slip seat is carefully molded. Each leg is stretched wonderfully with an H-form stretcher, the middle bar dovetailing into the side bars with tiny dovetails. This is a rare and wonderful find. Stools were not high-production pieces. Crafted infrequently for special chairs and clients, and as such are very difficult to acquire in good condition. We believe this to be an American work, noting the secondary wood used and the shape and form of the blocks. This is a piece you will cherish in your home and easily incorporate into such a vast number of design scenarios- it is flexible, moving from being the obvious choice in front of a large WIngback chair to the wall between two windows with some books piled upon it. Also, being the height of many diminutive chairs, it can rest in front of the Piano or dressing table very comfortably, and be fully functional as such. Rare Original 18th Century Queen Anne Period Yew Wood Joint Stool With Molded Oak Top. Beautifully proportioned 18th century yew wood joint stool with molded friezes above delicately turned baluster legs. All peg joined throughout. The oak top is fixed with four original pegs. There are also some additional iron nails to one side and one corner edge of the top has an old repair evident. The stool remains in original condition throughout. All original stretchers and none of the feet have been tipped or spliced. Yew wood is extremely resistant to worm and rot and all the feet remain in good order. All peg joints are untouched and the stool is very sturdy with no play or movement to the joints. The whole piece has the most wonderful cololur and patination. Measures 21" high x 18" wide x 12 1/4" deep.

This charming bench could have been the original sofabed! The lid under the cushion removes to reveal the sleeping box which was filled with straw. Presumably to accommodate unexpected overnight guests, or just as a useful dual purpose piece. The small size of the sleeping box illustrates the smaller people of people 250 years ago. New England origin. The lid plank joins need some repair or this would list much higher.

18th Century George III oak bench of good colour antique Georgian
There are benches and then there are benches. And then there is the bench. And it's a cracker. One of the nicest oak benches we've seen in a long time with just fabulous colour and patination. Just shy of six feet long. The 2 1/4" thick slab of oak stands over splayed and chamfered legs. The wear to the edges along the edges of the bench were many many pairs of legs have rubbed against it over the last two hundred and thirty years or so is a lovely feature. The A frame supporting stretchers to the legs are a later feature. This is a very solid and sturdy(and heavy) 18th century oak bench and we just love it. The hand-cut rose head nails were used only until the end of the 18th Century. Boldly drawn claw and ball feet. The wood is very fine-grained and smoothly worked. Mahogany of this period came mainly from Jamaica and West Indies. This stool comes along with the original dressing tacks. Which were removed to replace the original badly worn covers and horse hair with cushioned modern black velvet. Original latticed lower dressing intact. But with water stain at one corner. 4 Small block supports used at each leg joint along with hammered round-headed(rose) nails. Very Good condition but for lacking the original covering(which was ruined on acquisition) More pictures to follow*

A fine three legged cutlers stool of primitive form. 18th Century. Welsh origin. The elm seat board has lovely areas of wear to the outer edges. The legs have been ribbed to provide additional decoration. All in all good colour. Condition- good- some surface wear commensurate with age. ENGLISH PINE AND OAK ANTIQUE CHURCH PEW OR HALL BENCH England. Predominantly 18th Century with restorations Item# 411YGM15 A beautifully worn and patinated piece. This antique English storage bench was crafted at some early point in the 18th Century. The craftsmanship is typical of the era, utilizing through tenons to join the majority of the frame, single and double pinning most joints with wooden pins with the back panels deeply chamfered on the back edges to rest in rabbet grooves in the stiles and horizontal braces. The seat has two lifting panels that allow items to be easily stored within(though the right side is lacking it's bottom boards) Rough and rugged with it's beautiful glowing patina. This is such a treasure for any French country style home or a classical Georgian interior. It would look very striking in a broad entryway ... moreor hall, particularly to compliment thick wooden floors. Sturdy and strong, this is a very functional and enjoyable piece that was built to last the test of time and will continue to do so for many years to come. Measurements: 50 1/2" W x 57 3/4" H x 20 1/2" D(at the arms) 18 7/8" D(at the frame) 18" H to seat Condition Report: Predominantly 18th century with extensive restoration: three feet with splice repairs and restoration; plank backing the lifting lid on seat has a spliced repair. Probably from hinges breaking out; two hinges period and probably, two replaced. Two replaced bottom boards, missing bottom boards under right seat; seat planks are probably replaced. Surface is beautifully patinated with a glowing waxed finish; typical use indicators, including extensive scarring, scratches, inactive pest damage, etc. as expected. Other components may be replaced, but we haven't examined every plank for originality as it is not a value determinant. Overall very sturdy and strong. This week we have this early 17th Century oak english joint stool or small table. It appears that this piece is all orignal without any new wooden pieces as you find with many other items from this period. proper wear to stretchers and top. All joints are hand wooden pegs with mortice and tenon joints. One leg is a bit shorter and the piece rocks slightly. It measures 14 3/4" tall x 10 1/4" x 10 1/2" It is quite heavy for its size weighing just under 7 pounds. it is solid oak or walnut. PLEASE NOTE. WE HAVE TWO OF THESE UP IN TWO DIFFERENT AUCTIONS.
