Vintage Art Deco Exit Sign movie theater rare antique glass lights
This is a rare movie theater art deco exit sign. It came out of an old movie theater in central PA. The glass is about 12"x 8" when it is out of the base. The glass is cut in and painted red for the letters. This is how I found it. I only added the cord. I was tempted to painted the base silver but I will leave that up to the new owner. It will be well packed and have insurance. Payment is due within 3 days of auctions end. I ship only to the lower 48 states with advertised shipping price. Great set of Art Deco panels said to be removed from a bank in Chicago. Made of extremely thick glass. Back is ribbed and has a vibrant cobolt blue glow when viewed with light shining through from behind.Panels are 36 inches by 18 inches by 1/2 inch thick. There is some chipping along the edge(see pics)these can be easily trimmed out or hidden in frame. Some light scratches as expected with age and purpose. The panel is separated by rougher,perhaps sandblasted rectangular pieces, which makes for an incredibly unusual architectural experience. Exceptional french enameled sign dating to the 1940s signed Hansi. The sign says"potassium of the Alsace region in large quantity and of good quality. The barometer glass is missing and neither of the instruments is in working condition. I got these from the Marquis of Grandby! Its was a very old pub- extended a few times until it was a large rambling place. It was much loved- now its a ruin. It sat at a junction not far from the picturesque town of Castleton in the Peak district National Park. Story I heard from a local was that some foreigner bought it to extend it as a lap dancing club for Taxi drivers but the planners wouldn't allow it. Old Amos(twas his name) went on to say that out of spite this guy shut it and left it to rot. Later it burned down. Said the guy was from Rotherham- or Rochdale cant remember. but I'm sure the Police will know.

This 93" by 43" sign is a GENUINE BARN FIND! I located it in the barn of a chicken farm on Long Island. It was folded in half, bent to hell and had just the remnants of the frame that once held it to a building. I made a brand new frame for it out of 1"by 3"s, and carefully straightened ... moreit enough to attach it. All of the original patina(mung, gack, tree sap, chicken manure and rust) were left in place for authenticity. If you look carefully at the side of the truck, it has the"Mayflower" name and logo still visible. If you so desired, you could simply follow the outline to add it again, or the sign might spring back to life with a very light compounding. And if anyone mentions those clowns on"American Pickers" and their"rusty gold" I LUUUUV IT! I'll block you from bidding. Any dealer will tell you buying something for $60, and selling it for $100, you are NOT having a successful day! But I digress. Back to the sign. It's about 93" by 43" and as you can see by the pix, is in pretty good condition for it's age. The top edge is quite rusty from being exposed to the elements for decades, but still fairly solid. The back of the sign was also imprinted with the same design as is on the front, but the sign was stamped out with it's picture frame-like edge, the back was smeared with a green rust-preventative, and it was forgotten.
