Peck Stow& Wilcox Company I found these great Owl Andirons in my 94-year-old father’s estate. They’ve been in my family for as long as I can recall. I remember as a boy staring at the yellow glass eyes as the fire lit them from behind. These very beautiful(and very heavy. Each one almost 7 pounds) Perched Owl Andirons are in amazing condition. There are NO breaks, cracks or signs or past repairs. The yellow glass eyes look just like new, and the light of the fire makes them glow like the owl is alive! It is rare to find all four glass eyes in PERFECT condition; there are no cracks. Chips or scratches on the eyes. The Owl measures 15.5’ tall and is 9.75” wide at the base. The firedog(the piece that the logs rest ... moreon) measures 14.75” long. One of the firedogs is missing. They sell replacement firedogs at fireplace shops and it simply slides into a track on the back side of the andiron. The markings on the inside of each andiron are P S& W Co. There are two other markings a‘G’ and‘S’ stacked over one another to the left of the company stamp. On the bottom there is a manufacturer's sticker that reads Battlefield Antiques Inc. and there is blue marker with the date June 1988. The bottom of the bank shows a little bit of rust. The colors are still very bright and the bank appears to be in good condition. I acquired this piece second hand but never used it personally. It's been sitting in storage for the last few years. There are many styles and variations of these old architectural appointments and the Federal eagles were one of the most popular. Traditional example of artistic form following function. They were attached to the roofs to hold& keep layers of snow from sliding off. The snowbirds had mounting bars or straps that were usually placed about 24" from the roof edge. The'birds' then positioned side-by-side in a horizontal line. Their wings were designed to form a vertical barrier, holding the snow safely in place, allowing it to slowly melt. Cast iron pleater, shoe cobbler, and other antiques.
up for auction is a lot of cast iron antiques. my grandmother decided she didn't want them anymore. So here they are. They are very heavy, i would say the box is about 35 pounds. Also they were kept in a garage environment, but as you can see from the pictures they are pretty rusty.

One good reason(beyond utilitarian use) must be the numerous and wonderfully decorative designs available. I’d say these trivets were made in France about 75 to 85 years ago- give or take a decade. I’ve searched lots of internet sites and haven’t been able to find this particular design. The center oval reminds me of a pineapple. But I’m sure the designer had something else in mind.
