This handsome ornate oak armoire is called an“homme debout” standing man) and dates from the end of the 18 th century. It was bought by my great-grand mother in the 1930’s. It is 6'4" feet tall. 43 inches width and 19 inches depth. The armoire has been appraised by a French antique expert in 1999 before we moved to the US at 25.000 FF or 3,800 Euros/$4,900 US. Hi! This is an authentic pre 18th century antique from France. It has wonderfully curvaceous legs and is hand carved out of solid wood. No veneers or partical board like the reproductions. The bottom is constructed of plank boards held together with wooden pegs. Metal brackets were added recently for extra support. I believe the upholstery as well as the nail heads to be original. Antique Linen Press, made in England around the mid 1700's. These linen screw presses were a must for the servants of any affluent household in order to properly press the linen and napkins. They would put linen between the table top portion and the flattening board, turn the handles, which in turn moves the large center corkscrew and lowers the board down on the linen with a heavy force, which would press the linen. This all original example is made from Mahogany and is just beautiful. It is in excellent condition with a wonderful patina. The construction does not use nails, but is held together with wooden pegs and joints. There is one drawer using dovetail construction ... moreand made of pine on the sides and bottom.
