There are creases in the two bottom corners and rip extending from the top left corner into the map(see picture#5) Moderate browning and a few small rips along the edge. There are holes across the top where it was originally bound. There are some darker stains around some of the outer edges and some stains affecting the actual map area. This is an Antique Hand Painted Map of Kent. England, circa 1646(undated) engraved with original coloring, beautifully ornamented. The title cartouche lower left reads, Cantivm Vernacule Kent. The Cities, Earles, and households are described and observed. It features 7 hand painted Armorial, Coats of Arms, several cherubs or putti and the Mitre and Crozier of the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Coats of Arms included are those of Thomas Holland, Edmund Graye, William Neuill, Edmond Woodstok, Hubert de Burgh, William Iprese Earl of Elan, and Odo Bishop of Bayen. There are also depictions of Sailing Ships and Sea Monsters. This map is not only a fascinating historical record of Kent, England, it is also a decorated work of art. Depicted are waterways, bridges, trees and hills. Castles and dwellings are shown along with the family names. Much ... moreis written in old Latin. For example, Mare Germanicum" in the upper right is Latin for"German Sea. The title"Cantivm Vernacule" is Latin for"Indigenous Kent. Julius Caesar referred to the area as"Cantium. The printed area measures 20 inches by 15 inches. The frame measures 23 inches by 19 1/2 inches. The printing plate mark is clearly visible on the edges of the print. This map is in excellent age appropriate condition and has the center fold usually found on these maps. There are a few small age spots present. There is a faint pencil mark indicating the year 1658 as shown in photo 11. I have taken several photos from different angles so you can get a clear view. In the lower center of the map is printed"Amstelodami Apud Ioannem Ianssonium. the map maker's Latin for, In Amsterdam by Johannes Janssonius. Johannes Janssonius(1588- 1664) also known as Jan Jansson, was born in Arnhem, Holland. He was the son of a printer and bookseller and married into the prominent cartographer family, Hondius. Antique Map of Vermont Hand Colored Engraved for M Carey
This great old map measures 6 x 8 inches. That is the image. It is colored in orange and yellow The background paper is the color of brown paper bag. It is not dated but I would guess early 1800's or even earlier. There is a hole the size of a pencil eraser on the left side roughly at the bottom of Lake Champlain. The Legend reads Vermont from actual surgery, American miles and then a scale of miles, Engraved for M Carey. At the tops of the map it reads 2degrees Lon. E. from Philad. At the bottom of the map it reads 73 degrees Lon. W. from London. I'm not sure I have that exactly right but to the best of my ability that is how it reads. Good Luck!

You are bidding on a very nice. Authetic 19th Century antique map, entitled: Map of Michigan, Wisconsin and Part of Iowa. It is dated 1844, and was drawn& engraved by Sherman& Smith, NY, and published by D.F. Robinson, CT. There is a subtitle indicating that it was: To Illustrate Olney's School Geography. This is a nicely engraved and hand( colored map, showing the population of Wisconsin as 30,900; Michigan as 212,000; and Iowa as 43,000. The outer dimesions of the paper are 12 1/4" by 9 5/8; the map is encased loosely in a protective plastic pouch, but you could easily remove it for framing purposes. I believe that the map is nice condtion, considering the fact that it is 170 years old, with some toning and pencil scribble marks on the reverse of the map which are not visible from the front. We are selling an old hand colored copper engraved map of South America by G. Valk and P. Schenk. The cartouche on the lower left is supported by natives. It appears to date from about 1700. It measures 20 3/8"h x 23 3.4" w. There doesn't seem to be any paper loss but t here is some repair to the center. And partsof the center fold, which need restoration( see photos. Up for sale is a hand colored antique engraved map of Massachusetts. Rhode Island and Connecticut. Published Mitchell's Modern Atlas in 1870(a series of 44 Copperplate Maps) by E. H. Butler& Co. Philadelphia. Drawn and engraved expressly to illustrate Mitchell's New School Geography. It measures approximately 9 1/2 x 11 1/2(including the border areas) On the other side is a map of New York. New Jersey, Pennsylvania& Delaware. Map is in Fair condition with the biggest problems appearing at the border areas. There are tears or creases on all four corners. There is moderate browning and some other rips along the edge. There are holes across the top edge from where it was originally bound. There are some darker stains around some of the outer edges and some lighter stains affecting the actual map area. There is also browning/staining ... moreon the reverse map. Will look nice framed. Framed Antique Original 1863 Map United States Engraved Mitchell's Hand Colored
This is an original Mitchell's engraved map of the United States There is no year on the map itself. But through research it dates to between June 1863- May 1864, right toward the end of the Civil War, when Montana and Wyoming weren't yet territories. You can clearly see Idaho as a large territory, and Oklahoma is still Indian Territory Looks to have been taken from an old Mitchell's School Atlas book and is pasted onto light pink cardboard backing. The map is hand colored and at the bottom left corner reads: No. 5 Map of the United States Engraved to Illustrate Mitchell's Family& School Geography The map does come in an older frame that looks to be vintage. But it's uncertain when it was framed. There is no backing.
