This truly captivating antique Art Deco bronze crucifix is sculpted in stylized. Elongated fashion, reminiscent of El Greco. Exquisitely rendered, this sculpture of the Crucified Christ will bring a sacred and reverent feeling to any space. Elegant, solemn and of the HIGHEST artistic quality, it is perfect for any home alter or chapel. The anatomy is described in beautiful, studied detail with perfect Vitruvian proportions. The exquisite detailing includes a portrait-quality facial expression, finely described arms, hands and feet and separately sculpted legs(not fused) From the thorn-crowned head to the pierced hands, side and feet, the work of a trained master is evident in even the smallest details. The cross is made of solid hardwood(oak) with a halved-moulded joint. Both the sculpture and cross are tight and secure. The banner above ... moreChrist is well attached. The bronze halo is also well attached. But can move a little when touched because the screw holding it is a little loose, however, it stays in place nicely if untouched. The bronze figure would need to be removed from the cross to adjust the screw. This is an old and rare piece, wonderfully sculpted, cast and finished. Please zoom all the photos. Measurements: The wooden cross is 13" tall(not including the peg at the bottom) by 9.75" wide. The Christ figure is about 7" tall by 7" wide. The wooden cross is about 1" thick, the upright being a little thinner than 1" and the cross piece a little thicker than 1" The darkness of the wood and the oxidation around the original mounting screw reveal that this is a very old piece. The semi-circular cut and peg at the bottom of the cross indicate that this crucifix was made to stand on a curved base. Possibly a globe. The peg has not been removed or altered, so it could still be mounted in this way, however, the back has been retro-fitted with a nicely recessed wall mount for hanging. The bronze is unsigned.
