Antique 1836 Wooden Single Bed Frame - Gorgeous - Abraham Lincoln's ?
Beautiful Antique 1836 Single Bed Frame w/ Headboard and Footboard. Please read the background about this very special antique bed. I was contacted by a gentleman some months wanting for me to help him sell off some of his family's possessions. One of these was the bed you see pictured here which can accurately be dated to 1836. As indicated on the bill of lading. The same bill also tells us that it was shipped from Meredosia, Illinois, not far from Springfield, IL. Now that information itself wouldn't have any significant meaning if not coupled with the fact that my seller shared with me that this bed was purchased by one of his family members on the steps of the Springfield city hall at an auction. Add the fact that this bed has been altered to accommodate a taller person(the average height for a person back then was only 5'8" ... moreand now you're looking at an interesting scenario. What does this imply? You may ask. Abraham Lincoln was living in New Salem(Northeast of Meredosia and North of Springfield) at the time this bed was delivered in 1836. The destination of the bed's delivery is unknown. The bill of lading makes reference to the fact that the bed was shipped from Meredisia. IL- that's 80 miles to the west of Springfield, IL and 16 miles northeast of New Salem, IL where Lincoln lived 1833-1836. This bed was purchased in the past through the municipality of Springfield. IL. How did the city of Springfield come to own it? Abraham Lincoln was 6'4" tall and would have needed a custom built bed to sleep on- such as the one listed here. At the end of the day. This just adds up to be a bunch of circumstantial facts that MAY indicate that this bed was delivered in the same area and at the same time that Abraham Lincoln was also there. It is evident that this is also a custom length bed capable of sleeping a man of 6'4" height. I am 6'4" myself. Vintage Brass Bed Two Inch Tubing on Casters Size Full ? Interlocking Frame
Vintage Brass bed. Two inch tubing, size narrow full, on casters. We are very pleased to be able to offer for your consideration this Vintage brass bed. This brass Bed looks much like the classic Rogers style brass beds made around the turn of the last century. The headboard and foot board frame is made of a heavy gauge 2 inch diameter tubing. The accent tubing is 3/4 inches in diameter. The side frame members are heavy steel rails, and have interlocking ends. The bed carries no makers marks, or dates that I can find, but we do know it is at least 50 years old. The mattress rails on this frame are 52 1/2 inches apart. A bit narrow for a standard 54 inch full mattress, but the length is a standard 75 inches. The frame headboard measures 63 1/32 inches tall. The foot board measures 42/34 inches tall, both are 56 inches wide. The bed is 82 inches ... morein total length. Condition- The overall condition of this bed is very good. It is a solidly built piece of furniture. The only flaw I can see is in the tarnish that has accumulated mostly of the horizontal rail of the footboard. It may have seen a great deal of use as a handhold. But this could be buffed out, or left as is. There is also one very small ding on the top right side of the headboards horizontal rail(See picture provided) But other than these small flaws this is a well built, good quality bed, one that will last more than a lifetime This brass frame bed has a very classic. Understated style, one that will lend itself well to many interior design schemes. It may be just the piece you have been looking for, to add that little something extra to your guest room. We brought it into the refinishing shop. ... moreDid whatever little touchups it needed, re-sprayed the flame mahogany paneled headboard top with the solid mahogany pineapple carved posts. It’s in a beautiful reddish-brown stain finish, and it’s just stunning. We actually have another bed for sale that’s just like it. If you’re interested in a pair, you should check our site to see if the other one is still available. The overall outside dimensions are 58 inches wide, 49 inches to the top of the finial on the post, 31 inches high on the solid mahogany cross-stretcher on the footboard, and 45 inches high on the headboard. It has no casters, but if you desire casters, we can put them in, which will raise the bed another 2 inches. The inside dimensions of the wooden side rails that lock in nice and tight are 54 inches wide, and 75 inches long, so it will easily take a modern-day full-size box spring and mattress. This antique bed certainly looks the part, and while it is in overall good condition, it does have a few items worth mentioning. Empire Burl Walnut Italian Bedroom Set 7 Pc Marble Top
This is one of two Italian sets we have from this period and this is the claw foot one and most desirable. The two single beds are already aligned to make a king or queen size bed by attaching the two singles at mid point as my Father did on these sets. Bed back is about 57 and 1/2 inches tall and foot 35 inches Tall width each 35 and 1/2 inches which makes them 71 + when put together. Highest point in set would be Armoir at about 7 feet 2 inches. The condition is very good for this time period and has the normal scuffs and wear of use and shines up like a jewel when polished regular. I would replace the older hardware with something more modern but traditional. Burl tends to cave in with age in the knot area which separates the wood. Most people do not touch this or fill it in but leave it with it's natural aging. Beautiful Antique 5 PC Tiger Maple Wood/Veneer Bedroom Suite/Set
This wonderful wood with veneer 5 pc Tiger Maple Bedroom Suite from the 1920's is beautiful and unique. In the 1920's a lot of veneer was used as solid wood was really expensive. The set includes the full size bed with a headboard/footboard and side rails. 2 tall night stands, a high-boy chest of drawers, and a short vanity with mirror. This set was purchased at Morris Antiques in Keo, AR a few years ago. The set does have some damaged areas, dings, and scratches from moving(but can be repaired by a qualified professional) I have tried to take pictures of all of the major flaws.Night stand leg has wood missing, night stand has cracks in veneer top, foot board veneer is coming loose on one corner and also has a bubbled area under the veneer, and the vanity mirror has a cracked area) Overall, this is still a very nice set!
