This turn of last century(approximately 1900) bedroom suite has been painted. It was most likely stenciled or faux painted to look like quarter sawn oak. The pieces are exceptionally tall. The bed and dresser are 84 inches tall and the wash stand is 78 inches tall. Dresser and wash stand have beveled mirrors. The dresser mirror is pretty clear. But the wash stand has some bad spots. All of the claw foot toes are in tact and all of the trim is still in place. I don't know what is under the paint, but it has been painted for a long time. Simmons trademark, and the number 10407 are all on the inside of the head of the bed; the number 10407 is also on the foot of the bed. The side rails are original to the bed. The company information also gives the Executive offices at Kenosha, Wisconsin and factories at Kenosha Wisconsin and San Francisco, California. The bed has a canted and panelled head and footboard, standing on turned bun feet rising over which is a decorative frieze with a moulded edge with a lovely medullary rayed oak veneered panel with raised mouldings with canted corners and a matched canted frame with an ogee moulding.
