This heavy old oak railroad desk has a hinged. Slant top with storage under lid and book storage in the back with a latch on the door. It was made to be a free-standing desk that could be in the middle of a room or train station rather than against a wall(although I have it against a wall in my home due to space limitations) Top has a pierced decorative piece; also slot for pen and ink wells. Original patina; never refinished. Desk measures 25.5 inches wide x 25.75 inches deep x 36.5 inches tall/high. Great piece of railroad history. Condition: You can see cracks in lid and bottom of drawer along seams of where the wood was glued together at point of construction. Ink stains/spills inside drawer. Lots of wear and scratches on lid surface. Particularly, and if you look close, there are some initials carved here and there on it. I apologize for dust on back shelves. Some stains on the wood. The flame mahogany looks incredible. With a rich complexion and a pronounced grain that are sure to complement any setting. Each drawer is adorned with elegant solid brass pulls and features dovetailed joints. The writing surface is inlaid with rich brown leather bordered by gold tooling-which was replaced during a recent restoration that also included a new coat of hand-rubbed wax. In total, this desk features three drawers and two cabinets on one side, with seven standard drawers and a file drawer on the other.
