The desk has a large amount of surface scratches on it, particularly ... moreon the top surface. I am unsure of its actual age. I would guess that it dates to the 1940’s or possibly a bit earlier. It has the original hardware on the drawers although some of the drawer pulls are missing parts of their swivel handles. The desk drawers pull in and out smoothly and have dovetail joints. There are some nice carved details to the front of the desk, but it will most certainly need to be refinished as there are a lot of scratches on it, and some stains inside the drawers as well. The desk is 30” tall, with the space for the chair being 21” high, and 17.5” wide. The desk is 48" long, and 18" wide front to back at most.

It has matching brass knobs on all doors and drawers, with the exception of the far right drawer, which has a drawer pull on it. It features four drawers and one storage compartment behind it's one door. The desk has a truly unique shape and design. It has ornately carved panels on the front, sides, and even the back. The drawers have dove tail joints. The desk was in front of a window for years, and therefore the finish on the back side is a bit faded.

School desk& chairs cuter then what pictures shows: The desk has 3 slots for books etc. It is 66 in long, the top is 18 1/2 in wide x1/2 24 in tall. Nice heavy wood, not sure what. Each slot measures inside 15x8. Alot of cute carved in initails if you look real close. Some very faint. The small wood chair measures seat 11 x11 back 12 in tall total tall 25 in, the next wood& metal seat 12x13 back 11 in tall, total tall 23 in. Antique Wooden Lap Desk with Brass Writing Surface, Inkwell, Quill Pen Holder
Antique wooden lap desk. Measures 17.5" x 13.25" at the base and 6.5" tall at the tallest point. There is a brass sheet attached to the top to make a smoother writing surface. The inkwell and pen holder are also brass. As are the posts that hold the wooden railing at the top in place. There are also two brass reinforcements, one on each of the back corners. I am unsure of the exact age of this desk. Condition is as seen in the photos. Scratches and dings in the wood. The brass writing surface is bowed up on one side. The nail holding one side of the railing in place is a little loose. But the railing seems secure(see second to last photo) Both the inkwell and the pen holder can spin freely in place, but I believe this is how they were designed. The quill pen seems to have a modern ink cartridge installed in it, but the cartridge ... moreis dried up and rusted on the tip, so it does not write.
