When the desk front is opened and lowered into the writing position, two arms come out automatically to support the writing surface. The inside measurement, where the glass meets the brass ribbing, is 6-3/4 tall x 4-3/4 wide. The outer measurements are 8-3/8 x 6-3/4. The back is covered with a velvet-like material and it goes up around the sides. I believe the flat black on top is metal. It is in a thin layer and you can see this in the second last photo Excellent condition with no dents or loss to the finish. There is a small drawer under that is suitable for writing material or vanity objects. Along with this Desk comes a Teak wood chair made by John Stuart INC in the Mid Century. Both items match each other even though they were not made as a set. New fabric has been added to the chair seat. The colors of the fabric are black and white. A special blend of oils were used to permanently restore the finish back to its original luster. The set has not been refinished. There is slight normal antique wear to the desk top but the restoration has brought the finish together making it an even shine. When this is done to new furniture it's called Antiquing and its a very popular style. The Chair is sturdy and in fantastic condition. Again. There is very slight Antique wear but we have restored this item to its original luster and it looks fantastic! This would serve well as a writing desk or a vanity.
