A complete First Edition of Emanuel Bowen's"Britannia Depicta" comprising 273 strip road maps. Printed back to back, published in London by Thomas Bowles in 1720. This popular pocket-sized publication covered all of the principal roads of England and Wales for the horse and rider with every mile marked along the way and all of the landmarks noted- churches. Houses, windmills, streams and uphill/downhill topography(downhills are identified by upside-down hills) Interesting notes about towns, such as market days, are added to the sides. Each strip has its own compass rose to help guide the traveller. All of the maps are in remarkably good. Bright condition with no foxing or staining. The last three maps have very minor worm holes in the margins only. One map(20) has been overlain with what looks like a facsimile(see yellowish ... more11 th. scan) but on closer investigation it appears to be a rough manuscript copy or draft- the 12 th. scan shows map#20 in final form from another copy I possess(very mysterious! To clarify Map#20 is present and may be in perfect shape but is covered from view. Original worn leather binding with front cover loose but still attached. Binding generally tight but spine is opening between maps 132 and 133(see scan) Ownership script on front covers- see scan. Particularly in good condition, as they are usually broken up and sold individually. We have for your viewing and bidding pleasure 31 vintage collectible road maps. The road maps were put out by various oil and gas companies. The first 5 we are describing were put out by SKELLY OIL COMPANY. The states are N. DAKOTA-S. DAKOTA. 2-MINNESOTA, WYOMING and COLORADO. These last 2 have graphics of a late 1940's automobile on the front. The next 4 maps were put out by MOBIL. They have their logo's with the flying red pegasus horse. The states are for NORTH DAKOTA SOUTH DAKOTA, MINNESOTA, CALIFORNIA and IDAHO MONTANA WYOMING. Two of the maps have graphics of a late 50's or very early 1960's automobile on the front. The next is for the WESTERN STATES and was put out by UTOCO(UTAH OIL REFINING COMPANY) It has graphics of a late 1940's automobile on the front. The next 9 maps were put out by TEXACO. The first is for ... morethe city of LOS ANGELES and the second is for the state of NEVADA. Both of these have graphics of a'59 to 1960 automobile on the front. Then there is MINNESOTA with graphics of a 1969 or early'70's automobile on the front. Someone put a date of 1973 in ball point ink under the state name. The other states are MINNESOTA(someone has put the month of May in ball point ink on the front) WYOMING, UTAH, WISCONSIN, WASHINGTON(dated 1940) and COLORADO-UTAH-WYOMING with KANSAS-NEBRASKA. There are 2 put out by SUNOCO(SUN OIL COMPANY and 1 SUNRAY DX OIL COMPANY) The states are MICHIGAN(1969& 1970) ILLINOIS(1970& 1971) and IOWA. There is 1 D-X DIAMOND of IOWA AND UNITED STATES. The next one is APCO of IOWA(At the top front of this map there is some notations in ink pen. The next 3 maps were put out by SHELL. They are of WYOMING, CALIFORNIA(This map has a couple of ½” tears and penciled notations on the back. and the third map is a STREET GUIDE OF SAN FRANCISCO AND SAN FRANCISCO PENINSULA NORTHERN SECTION. An insert map of Cleveland, a map key, an OH index of cities and towns, and info. on OH turnpike tolls/ The other side is the road map of southern OH. insert maps of Cincinnati. Up for bid are three vintage maps. The first one is a trip planning map of the USA and is put out by the Humble oil& refining Co. I believe it may be from the 60's. It is in nice clean condition with no major damage. The second one is a Santa-Fe map of the USA and world. I believe it may be from the 40's, it has some holes and the front is faded and when opened some of the folds are beginning to rip. The third one is a travel-aide of No. So. Carolina from 1969-70 put out by Texaco, this map is also in nice condition with no major damage. Feel free to ask any questions.

Here's a Great Collection of Mostly Travel and Road Maps from a 1927 Cross Country Trip Taken in a Model T. Offered at NO RESERVE! The trip was over 9,000.00 miles and lasted 38 days, according to some writing on the atlas. I was actually able to talk with one of the travelers on this trip, who was seven years old at the time. As you can imagine, he related that it was a fascinating journey for him as a seven year old boy. Everything you see in the first picture is included; I don't think that the three Florida sheets in picture 4 were from this trip, but they were in the box so I included them. The Auto Road Atlas is shot but I'm including it because it has the hand written information about the trip(picture 11) Most of the maps have writing or stamps on them, some have very little, some have a fair amount or more and a couple ... moreare really loaded up- see the pictures and make sure you use the zoom in feature to get the best looks. Also there's normal age related wear and tear, and I can't say that everything is complete, there might be some missing pages or what have you. There are no rips. Tears, holes or stains on this map. The one edge of the front cover has tanned a very little bit and the center fold of the covers has browned some due to aging. This is Rand McNally map with a scale of 1" = 10.3 miles. It is 4 1/8" x 9" when folded and it's 25 5/8" x 18" when unfolded. One side has the northern OH road map. A map index, an OH cities and towns index along with insert maps of Cleveland& Warren along with info. on OH turnpike tolls. The other side has the southern OH road map. I noticed seven rips/ tears on this map that are on the cross points of the folds. Four are small pen point size holes. Two are about 1/2"and the largest is approx. 2" On one side is a Pittsburgh& Vicinity Area Map with a scale of 1" = 1.3 miles. Also on this side is a map key.
