Early 1900's School wall Maps
These maps we're discovered in the original wooded box that once hung in a school classroom. These were from the old spring loaded pull down style. I have taken 2 of the maps and framed them for my own home. Great conversation piece. While I can't identify the publisher. The copyright reads 1914. Given the era, these maps show countries that no longer exist and many area are incorrectly scaled(limited tools at the time) As you can see there is some wear on all sides but that gives these even more character. The bottom has some damage-see pictures but from the middle of the bottom map up looks good. The original wooden rod is still at the bottom with the original pull. The map is coming loose from the backing at the bottom thus the damage. This would be a great addition to any Harvard University or wall map collection. Hart was born in Clarksville(now Clark) Mercer County. Pennsylvania. He graduated from Harvard University ... morein 1880. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and a classmate and friend of future U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt. He studied at Paris. Berlin and Freiburg. And received his doctorate from Freiburg in 1883. We have for your consideration this fantastic and wonderful estate find( Antique School Maps over 36" wide~Wood Wall Storage Case) We found this from an antique dealer in Arcadia Valley in South Eastern Missouri who told me that it came from an old school house in the area. The antique Map Wall case includes maps of the USA~ASIA~AFRICA& EUROPE. Please Note: This is a large listing with much to read and see. To the best of our ability. We wanted you to really experience this map set. So that you can make an accurate decision on your investment. The Custom made case is made of a hard wood(possibly oak) It was manufactured as you can see by the Brass Identification Plate by the A.H. ANDREWS CO. CHICAGO ILL. The case may have had a few repairs in the last 100 years or so. But over all is in good usable condition. The right front panel ... morehas some light surface buckling only on the outside surface. The inside looks nice. There is a small piece of wood or sliver that has been cracked and broken off on the back edge of the top board. Not noticeable and does not affect the use of the cabinet) and you will see a small paint splatter specks mostly on that same top board or what you might call a shelf area. The outside dimensions measures approximately 45 1/4 inches wide by 14 inches tall by 4 inches deep. To explore the maps you simply release the hooked hasps located on each outside edge of the door. The door is mounted with good strong hinges will lower into its resting place revealing the maps. This nice old case also has a functional lock on the front top of the drop down door. The front lock cover is made of what appears to be Copper. It uses a very basic"L" shaped key that should be easy to find or even have one made. The back of the case is still in good usable condition although it does show its age. This case holds 4 maps total. And all appear to be original to the case. This is one in a series of atlases Cram published in the early 1900's that contained both US and world maps with a focus on individual states. The interior pages/maps are in very nice condition. Very interesting Weber Costello, canvas backed, wall maps(or pull down school maps) The map of Europe is about 40" x 52" and a pencil note indicates it was"Received 3/31/44" The other North American map is a press proof and bears the 7/1/48 sign-off signature of"Wallmeyer" Weber Costello's Director of Cartography during the 1940s. Please review the photos carefully for condition issues. There is a tear at the top of the North American map but it doesn't extend into live area. There are plenty of creases and wrinkles to contend with but otherwise the maps are in good, vintage condition and could be easily restored. The color is very good. This listing is 4 DENOYER GEPPERT SCHOOL maps The condition all 4 maps have curled areas on the corners this can be seen in the photos the corners some tape on the back will fix the small areas the top right map has the most damage however where there are torn areas the maps just folded and also can be taped the oldest map is 1964 are not torn off however they are folded ... morefrom storage. The best method to fix this is place the maps flat with a board or plywood on top.Overall the condition is good to very good. If you are one of my regular customers you know what to expect. if your new expect a nice map that may need a little tape to repair small areas or folded corners in short not a new map. Many maps have the same title and look the same but they are not the same map. there are 100's of variations. That make them all different. This listing is a for 4 Europe school maps. From 1916 to 1950 They all have had restoration at some point however they could use some updating. There are taped areas a few torn areas etc but keep in mind the age on one is almost a century old. It depends on the way they will be used as to restoring. Some of my customers like them this way others do not. Each one has been listed as separate maps for $129 and up.two of them appraised at $105 and $125 as is and if restored 3 times that amount. 2 Large OS Maps of Loch Lomond and Islay - Scotland - 1960s - Wall - Fold Out
Two Maps- Loch Lomond and Is lay Two O/S maps on paper measuring 92 x 73cm(very approximate) They are dated 1962(Islay) and 1966(Lomond) Condition: The Lomond map has minor creasing(besides the expected) slight yellowing and the odd marks. There is very minor we ar and tear to the odd edge. Both are named in pen on the reverse side. The Islay map has the same faults as above. But a little worse and also there is a very small burn hole towards the centre right and some yellowed water markings on the left side(see photos below) The back of the map is a little grubbier as well.
