Antique Hourglass / Sand Timer, Made in Italy by Artamount, Silver over Brass
Artamount Sand Timer/ Hourglass This is a very nice old hourglass timer from around the early 20th cen. It has a glass insert and pink sand which takes three minutes to fully empty one side. not guaranteed to be an exact timer) The metal is silver over brass. The timer has unique ends which appear to me to be old phone dialers. The hourglass could have been used to time long distance calls. One end is engraved, ITALY ARTAMOUNT and the other end, PAT. PEND. It measures 4.5 inches long, heavy, solid and quality construction, both ends threaded. It has superficial scratches but nothing out of line for an item this old. The color is silver with brass showing through except the end pieces which are silver. In some of the pictures the hourglass looks more silver and in some it looks more brass. You are bidding on a vintage MAP CASE. This briefcase contains one large map. Which is of Missouri. I am unsure if this was a surveyor's or a salesman's or? The MO map was published and printed by the Thos. D. Murphy CO. from Red Oak. Iowa. The date was not printed on this map- maybe by accident? On the bottom. It reads"Copyright, JW Clement Co. Buffalo, NY" If you'll notice in the picture, there is a long space where the date should have been. Perhaps this was a misprint? This mapping briefcase would be a really cool addition to any map/surveyor/salesman/briefcase/primitive/antique collection.
