Antique map of The United States Showing The Natural Divisions Of The North American Forests Exclusive Of Mexico- Prepared under ... morethe direction of C.S. Sargent, Special Agent. Published in 1883. The map measures approximately 19" x 28" Including the border area. Map is in color and is blank on the reverse side. This map is from the"Department Of The Interior. Census Office" It was published in 1883 and included 16 maps with accompanying Report On Forest Trees of North America, by Prof. C. S. Sargent. Maps this early and showing this much forestry detail are very scarce. The map has fantastic coloring to it. The various shades of green represent the areas containing the different tree species. The map is generally in Fair- condition. There is wear and browning. Particuarly on the left hand side. There are some creases and tears around the edges of the paper and there are some heavier rips along the bottom border of the map- some heavier staining along the border- the left hand side is heavily stained and the bottom edge is heavily stained and torn. There are some"water stains" along the right edge. There is one tear on the bottom left hand corner. Near the Legend, that does extend into the map. There are creases/folds in the corners, along the border, and there are other dings here and there, as well. This map is a great piece of US history! It will look very nice when framed. Please note that while I have included a picture of the front board of the Atlas this map was taken from. It is NOT included in the sale, as it is a reference piece to determine authenticity for the other maps. I would be happy to include a copy if requested. This is a large map. The interior pages are complete and tight and in very good condition. All of the maps and tables are very well preserved- the leaves are generally quite clean and the hand coloring on the maps is well preserved. There are, however scattered spots of foxing and scattered small ink stains. This is a set of vintage DX Oil Company road maps from the 1950’s of the states of Nebraska and South and North Dakota. It has some great art work and coloring on it. As was the style of maps in the early 1950’s. We purchased these maps from the estate of a 106 year old lady that we knew personally. She was a very well traveled and educated woman, who documented every trip she took on a map and retained them until she passed away this spring. These maps are a very interesting look at how people traveled and went on vacations in the 1950’s. It features the great color and art work that was popular in the road maps of that era. The maps measure 14 by 10 3/4 inches. They are black inked copper plate engravings and hand colored. One shows Ice Age extent and the other showing the Geological Sysems as know at the time. Coming from a book it has a repaired split fold line in the middle and there is some page browning. Primarily around the edges from age. Would look great in your favorite style of frame! Printed more than 83 years ago. This book was edited by Frederick K. Branom. It measures 10" x 7-3/4" and has 322 pages plus a 61-page census supplement. The front cover has an embossed. Pebbled finish with a silver Art Deco motif, and the book was published in Chicago by the Reilly& Lee Company. It is copyrighted © 1931 by the Geographical Publishing Company. Condition: This book is in very good. Lightly used condition. The corners are bumped, the spine is frayed at the head and tail, and a previous owner has written his name of the front endpaper. For bid is an original 1914 United States Army“FIELD SERVICE REGULATIONS” Booklet“corrected to July 1. 1914” and bound with dark cloth covers with embossed covers. This terrific piece of US Arm history has 224 numbered pages plus addenda pages added to the back that date from 1915 and 1916(up to February 1916) This booklet was probably for soldiers serving in the United States– Mexican Revolution Border service. The book is full of military regulations, some maps and illustrations and two colored pages with flags, etc. It’s a terrific piece of military service history in very good condition. Original 1871 MITCHELL School Atlas 44 Hand Colored United States& World Maps Original antique 1871 school atlas. Printed just six years after the Civil War, more than 143 years ago. This book is titled Mitchell's Modern Atlas. It was published in Philadelphia by E.H. Butler& Company. In 1871 and is dated on the title page. It has 44 copperplate maps"drawn and engraved expressly to illustrate Mitchell's New School Geography. There are also geographical tables and"an extensive pronouncing vocabulary of nearly ten thousand names. The book measures 11-3/4" x 9-1/2" and has hardboard covers. Condition: Both front and rear covers are detached. And the spine is missing. The front cover has darkened and has three areas where the paper has come off. The corners are worn and rounded, and there is edge wear to the ... moreboards at front and back. The interior pages have occasional marks, tears, and light soil. All of the maps called for in the table of contents are present and intact. The scans below show the title page and some of the maps: Most of the mid-19th century school atlases we have seen were evidently put to some pretty hard use. And this is a good example. With the front and rear endpapers embellished with pencil inscriptions from the young scholars who used the book many years ago.
