Offering this large size Victorian era mahogany Newel Post in todays Auction. Great Victorian style with round rings carved inside on each side if the post. Also a nice quartercolumn on the Corners. Great Size and Presence! The top finial is a replacement and is made of Oak. The rest of the Newel is made of mahogany. It also has some newer moldings and panels on the bottom. The top needs to be re-glued and clamped where joined together(see photo) Overall.A great vintage piece of architecture! Easy to restore. Its original finish has not been tampered with. Sold as is. Antique French newel post lamp Heroic female figure in spelter with a brass foliate circle both with attractive bronze patinantion and two sockets with copper plated iron cups Signed A Rucho on the base and marked Made in France dating from around 1910 It is currently wired for a newel post with no cord. The mortise and tenon newel posts and railings all appear to be hand-made and the balusters appear to be hand-turned. The bases of the newel posts need some restoration but the tops all appear to be in good condition with great wear-marks and every one of these pieces shows great character. I’ll do my best to cover all of the dimensions. Antique Newel Post, Spelter Figure Lady & Lion Marked "Germany" Needs some TLC
Antique Newel Post Figure Spelter Lady& lion Stands 23" high Not sure if this was a newel post lamp or statue. There is a bar in the back of the figure that electric could be fed through(picture 4& 5) The figure is hollow and there are holes in the base for electric. The highly detailed spelter figure features a scantly clad Victorian Woman. Left arm raised holding a Fig Leaf. Her right hand is curled as if holding something. missing) Her leg is resting on a ferocious lions head. Both are standing on a leafy, rocky mount. I don't see any spelter chips but the bronze wash is chipping in many areas(see pictures) The spelter figure rests on a 3 1/4" wood base. There is some surface cracking to the wood. see pictures 9) The wood base remains strong and sturdy. The Wood base sits on a footed metal platform. Many of these Baccarat Finial bases crack with age.But this one is not cracked. It doe's have tiny scratces and inclusions that are only visible on close inspection.This is a 100% Authentic item.It is not a modern re-make. It was made by Baccarat in France.I do not have the part of the base that screws to the Newel post,but I understand that reproductions are available.I have owned this wonderful piece of crystal for many years.When I bought it in New Orleans at an estate sale I was told that it came from a Victorian Era Hotel. A gorgeous late 19th century mahogany newel post turned and carved from a single piece of wood. It has a balustrade-form body. A smooth base above which are inverted acanthus leaves, topped with an egg-and-dart detail. A smooth section separates the egg-and-dart detail from the intricately carved Art Nouveau organically flowing leaves and berries crowned with classic beading. The newel post has an opening at the top where originally set a newel post light. It is also notched on the back where it sat against the stairs and where the handrail attached. Large Figural Silver French Art Nouveau Victorian Newel Table Lamp Jewel Shades
Offered for your consideration is a fine silvered metal newel or table lamp formed by an art nouveau lady in a dramatic pose atop a graduated black marble plinth. I suspect that the base metal is spelter. Due to the weight, but perhaps it's pewter. The lamp is about 40" high by 18" wide and has three attached hammered silver shades with crimson red jeweled medallions at the tops and beautiful beaded fringe around the lower rims composed of a mixture of clear and red beads. The shades are suspended from typically Jugendstil whiplash floral sprays. The piece is in remarkably good condition; I see no evidence of cracks or repairs. The beaded fringe on the shades is completely intact, with no missing strands I can see. The silver plating is still very presentable, although of course there are some signs of wear, likely the result ... moreof a century of cleaning& polishing by previous owners. I have not polished the lamp in the years I've owned it, as I liked the patina. The pictures make the lamp appear slightly more golden than it looks in person. That is probably because the reflective surface is picking up the color from the wallpaper and carpeting in the rooms where I took the pictures. The wiring was updated/replaced at some point and is fine, as-is. I have been using it without fear or problems. If you are the winning bidder. I want you to be thrilled with the purchase. Each measures 55 long and are 8.5 inches square at the base and 675 square at the shaft. Overall they are in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as they are antique. Description This is an exceptional staircase that was salvaged from a Victorian Mansion in Clarion. PA. We have pretty much everything. Two newel posts. Railings, barley twist balusters, moldings, landings, and paneling. As you walked in the front door. The staircase was just ahead. You take three steps to the first landing. Turn right and up two steps to the second landing. Turn right and up 13 steps to the second floor. Turn right to hallway railing that is 153 inches long. Handrail going up 13 steps is 129 long. Landing 1 is 41.25 long by 40.25 wide. Landing 2 is 39.75 by 39.25. The steps are just over 7 inches high by 11.25 deep. My guy calls this a 7-10 rise. The first floor newel post is 85 inches tall with a paneled shaft. Carved cap and turned finial. The second floor newel is 51.25 inches from the top to the floor. Victorian Griffin Bannister Newel Post Gas/ Electric Lamp. Not sure if this was originally gas or electric. What I am sure about is that this is an exceptionally nice detailed Victorian Antique piece. It currently has and electrical socket. Socket is loose, there is no cord, you are buying this non-working. I am not sure if this is the original shade that came with it. But it fits in the fitting collar just perfect, and it was with the lamp when I obtained it out of an old estate, from a party who did interior demolitions years and years ago. Including some famous local Twin Cities' businesses. He was buying and scrapping metal from homes and businesses, before they were torn down, but he saved the very best things he had picked up over the years from these places. Brass Fixture is 29” tall from bottom flange to top of shade. Griffin ... moreis 6 ¼” wide measuring from tail to nose and 8” tall. Brass Fretwork Metal Globe is 4 ¾” in diameter. Shows Cherubs on both sides. There are what looks like it a couple of minor dents on flat portions between the fretwork design, but tit might have been made that way at the factory, I am no lamp expert, just trying to accurately describe what I see. This was polished along time ago and has some white polish residue. Bottom flange is 4 3/8” in diameter. 2 of the collar set screws to hold shade in are missing. Very easy to replace. Heavy thick walled satin white shade with thick raised designs. The background must have been acid cut and then frosted leaving a raised design. Shade is 7 ¾” from collar to top point. Collar is 3 ½” in diameter. Shade weighs about 2 pounds. No chips. Cracks, or dings, has some minor rub marks. It has a glass straw mark on the nipple of the shade, it is not a crack, does not go through. Shade is 6” at the widest. A simply fabulous piece of Victorian Era Turn of the Century Lighting. The Butlers Ball measures 5 3/4" in diameter and is 8 1/4" high with the pedestal. This is a gorgeous victorian newel post that was in the basement corner when I bought my home. I live in the victorian art museum area of center city Philadelphia and many of our larger homes had beautiful newel posts like these. Most of them were ripped out in the 1950s when everyone wanted to modernize. This was still in the basement along with a railing. As you can see in the photos. It has a rich beautiful patina. I think it is walnut or maybe mahogany and measures 34.50 inches high. Because it is so big and very very heavy, I am only offering LOCAL PICK-UP. NO SHIPPING! Antique Vintage Oak Newel Post Late 1800's Solid Oak 'Acorn' Finial #1
Here is a solid oak newel post that was removed from a home that was built in the 1880's. From the looks if it the original finish is still showing. 2 sides of it had railing(it was mid-way at the turn of the staircase) so there are spots where you can see the outlines of those pieces. In those same areas there are nail holes from mounting(see pics) This is one solid piece of wood that was turned, the finial is not a separate piece that was attached. There are a few nicks and scratches. As well as a few spots of wear on the corners of the post(see pics) but overall it's in great shape. The bottom is heavily notched, and there is still spots of over-paint on the post. See all photos for condition. The shaft has Victorian beveled edges. It measures 46.25 not including the part that went into the floor. 8 square at the base, 6 square at the shaft. Overall it is in good condition. Highly Carved Antique Victorian Oak Newel Post Cap in Original Condition
Here's a very ornately carved cap to an oak newel post which must have come from some impressive Victorian building. This would look stunning either built into a stairway of a Victorian home or as an interesting accent piece. There are a few chips. Bumps and nail holes and it is also quite dirty. But I'll leave any cleaning to the new owner. Although beautiful as is. The original quartersawn oak finish would certainly benefit from a little oil and wax to bring out the grain. A marvelous antique box newel post with brown paint. Dating from the late 1800s. Salvaged from a home in St. Louis, this boxed newel is crowned by a spherical newel post cap while the upper body features arches, concentric circles and carved stripes. Decorative flower rosettes move down to a groove pattern accented by chamfered edges. The newel post measures 9-3/4” wide overall and 63” tall. Blot on Kaiser's'Scutcheon Newel D. Hillis 1918 The Blot on the Kaiser's'Scutcheon by Newell Dwight Hillis. Fleming H. Revell Company. 1918. 193 pages, 4 3/4 by 7 1/4 inches. There's no doubt that Belgians suffered brutal treatment by the Germans during the early years of World War I. But exaggerated tales of atrocities were also spread as part of a propaganda effort, and it's now difficult to tell truth from fiction. Hillis(1858-1929) was a Congregational minister from Brooklyn who believed the worst of the Germans. This book condemns the whole society and even suggests that German men should be sterilized. He traveled all over the US giving lectures on the atrocities, and a notice on the verso of the title page notes that the Liberty Loan Committee issues a million and a half extracts from this book. This is an early ... moreedition. But the printing is not indicated. The spine is quite faded with some stains and fraying. The tops of the pages have a water stain, and the book is starting to crack at the title page. Owner's name on flyleaf. NC residents add sales tax. I will be glad to ship internationally.
