Hardwood newel post we believe to be walnut and from the 1880s. Its original dark stained finish is in good shape. Has very nice turnings. It was notched at the base and attached to the floor joists. It measures aprox. 59 1/2" tall X 5 3/4" overall. Antique Solid Oak Architectural Carved Victorian Newel ? Post Column Pillar
Solid oak post or column measuring about 23 1/4" tall. The diameter of the plain end measures about 5" and the other end where the carving is measures about 7" in diameter. Some areas of the column are straight cut oak while on 2 sides there is tiger oak grain showing. This piece is unfinished. The end with the carving is flat on the bottom while the other end is concave.There is a small piece of the turned ring near the carved portion that is missing. Also there is a tight age crack extending about 2" long from the end of the plain side and some dark spots on the turned ring on the bottom. Thank you for viewing. He stands about 23" tall to the top of the shade& he is made of spelter. He is in excellent shape-no damage or repairs. He has a brass Paris foundry stamp(sometimes called a coin) on the back of his base. He has brand new wiring& a rotary switch on the cord. The slag glass shade is awesome. It is opalescent so when lit it has an amazimg warm golden glow that is hard to capture with the camera. Also. Red/blue/green jewels surround the top. The shade is in excellent condition-no chips or cracks. This lamp once graced a newel post in a stately home but is now a table lamp.

The lamp is monumental in size. About 5 0 1/2" high by 16" wide. The piece is in remarkably good condition. It looks like portions of some leaves may be missing on the vines and aroun d the sockets at the top. T he only other possible flaw I see is a line across the base of the woman' s toes on her left p roper foot where they join her draped robe/gown. It may have been there from the ti me of casting. As it shows evidence of age. The wooden base shows a line from shrinkage over time. But ... moreis still completely stable. The p atination i s lovely. With only minimal signs of wear. Likely the result of a century of cleaning& polishing by previous owners. The wiring was re cent ly professionally updated/replaced with fine silk cord and a new plu g. I do not believe that the lamp originally had coordinating shades. Per se; I suspect that regular light bulbs were used. As it s purpose was to provide useful illumination. Alternatively. A variety of old and reproduction bulbs& bulb covers are available from various sources, if you do not already have them and care for that"look" If you are the winning bidder. I want you to be thrilled with the purchase. Returns, however, will not be accepted, due to the high costs(and risk of damage) incurred when shipping fragile valuable items back and forth. Left over from a staircase I installed close to forty years ago(see bottom images) My guess would be that the wood is Chestnut. There are nicks and scratches, as well as some nail holes where handrail attached. The post measures 25-1/2" in height x 5-1/2" x 6-7/8" at square side widths. The turned parts are 5" dia. at the top and the smallest diameter is 3-3/16" Three faces have identical designs. Fourth is where railing attached; one small square broken nail remains. The piece will clean up nicely. But will require a little repair where the top is chipped. SHIPPING WEIGHT: 10 lbs. This piece was not needed to complete the work seen here. The understated body of this box newel is crowned with a dome which features a beautifully carved foliate pattern; the repeating design is also found on a convex band around the newel's midsection. This is a wonderful antique boxed newel post in walnut. Dating from the 1890’s. The newel begins with a cap with a flat top. Below, the newel post is accented with roundels, followed by a bead-and-reel pattern on the corners of the newel. The sides are ornamented with simple fluting. Description This is a nice piece that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian Home. It is made of chestnut and is painted. It has the original cap but not the finial. The top has carved panels on three sides. The shaft is fluted. The base is notched for the step but is freestanding. It measures 49.5 inches tall. The base is 7.5 inches and the shaft is 6 square. Overall it is in decent condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. The cap is pretty beat up. There are lots of small chips and wear. One is at the very top and is about 2 ½ inches and the other is 1 ½ inches on a top rung. The lot comprising: 1 large colorless glass finial with red and white pulled feather design along the interior, the glass mounted to a shaped cylindrical metal base decorated with an Art Nouveau/Aesthetic style gold over gesso pattern of overlapping flowers and vines, the underside lined with felt; together with 2 similar colorless glass finials, the interiors blown with colorful undulating flower forms with captive bubbles, with tapering bases(one polished) both unmarked. That it was installed where the stairway turned. This post could be used in another stairway that is shorter by cutting off a section at the bottom. I have shown the measurements alongside the post in the photos below. I have also shown a small section where the natural wood shows. It is a hard wood and has close grains, like a walnut or other hard wood. The wood is not soft. But dense. It has signs of age, a slight crack or two, nothing that would keep it from being reused. Vintage Antique Pine Newel Post Cannon Ball Old Varnish Finish 4 3/4" x 40"
For your consideration is a vintage pine newel post. The post is 4 3/4" square x 40" tall. As shown. The post retains the original varnish with paint spatters here and there. The original configuration had hand rails coming into two sides of this post.so like an"L" There are nail holes and no varnish in these areas. There is a small chip in one of the turned rings on the ball top, as shown in the last photo. Estate fresh and in as found condition, there are dings and scratches as should be expected. Antique Pair of Brass Newel post lamps/Lights Deco/Arts & Crafts 32 inches high
A pair of late 19th early 20th C Newel post/ Staircase lamps/Lights. I'm guessing they are Victorian. Could be as late as the 1930's. Quality made however there are no makers marks I can find. They take apart so they can be re-wired or even turned back to what I think they were.Gas lamps! I have fastened one to a base to show how they could look. The brass"Cup" at the top of the shade is one I found to fasten the globe onto, it is not original but I will include it with a pair of globes for your use. International shipping available. I would take them apart for that purpose though to reduce the size for packing, air freight costs! Standing an imposing 32 inches high with 1 inch square posts mounted at the top with a finial and lamp bracket/arm curved to give hight to the shade. This is a pair of circa late 1800s fancy cast iron newel posts.They are over 150lbs each and are large at 48inches tall and 9-1/2 inches wide and 8-1/2 inches wide at different ends.The 2 top finials get held together with a rod that gets screwed into the finial and set in cement when post is placed in its permanent position. The post is held down very strong after this is done you will need to purchase new rods because these were rusted out and damaged this is a very easy item to purchase.To try and have these beauties cast today would cost a small fortune and they wont be the real deal as these 2 posts are.If you want all the detail to show they need to be sand blasted and repainted they will look amazing because so much of the detail is hidden behind layers of paint.The body is fluted with alot of scroll work around the neck and much more ... moredesign.These items need to be picked up because of there weight or I can have them delivered at a very fare price if it is not that far from my home.If you do want them delivered I can check with my shipper but it will be costly.For any other info email or call Vinny 1-631-300-7403 thanks.

I bought this antique railing over 40 years ago at an antique store- used part of it as a room divider until a redecoration. I believe the wood is either oak or walnut and that it is well over 100 years old. All parts seem to be from one unit from long ago. 1. the main part which I used consists of a railing which is 5' 10" long with 13 nice matching spindles and a matching newel post at the end which is 39 inches high and 5" square 2. a second matching newel post would be used at a corner- see pictures 3. another matching railing which is 4' 8" with a curve at the end 4. a bunch of spindles.
