A selection for any interior designer or home owner looking to bring the nostalgia and charm only found in the patina and form from the 18th Century. It is a form known as a double-back settee. Crafted in the George III Chippendale style from elements of 18th Century pieces to bring that natural depth and warmth. The crest flows with a soft serpentine over pierced bell-bottom splats. Terminating at each corner in sharp pointed ears over inward curved stiles that flow directly into the slightly canted back feet. The slip seat is trapezoidal in shape, a geometrical stitched upholstery of period design covering the frame, flanked on either side by curving arms. The entire design rests over three square front legs locked together with a box-form stretcher. This is purely a decorative work as a result of the adjustments. Probably c. 1900-1915 Item# 120010ERT222 ... moreThis is a beautiful Louis XV style carved Fruitwood or Beech Canape. Crafted after the originals of the mid-18th Century, probably during the years of 1900-1915 or thereabouts. It is a truly timeless design, replicated since it's origination in the first Rococo period in France even until today. This sofa is entirely carved by hand, the exposed frame around the sofa with crisp molding that culminates in the crest, a bouquet of flowers with mixed foliate. Acanthus leaves peak up over the frame along the serpentine top rail as it flows into curled arms that almost wrap into the front, creating that classic canape warmth and completing the overall flowing form of the design. The entire sofa is upholstered in a pink upholstery- please read the condition below, as it is in overall"good" condition, but has blemishes that are not well captured by the camera. The frame rests over a thick exposed apron that is carefully carved with the same floral motif at the crest, incredibly stable on four front legs and three back legs, each carved at the knee with a fine short cabriole profile to terminate in scrolled french toes. This is a beautiful work of Early 20th Century hand craftsmanship and will truly be a visual delight in any formal sitting room. It is incredibly sturdy and strong. Full of life to last many generations, and of a classic design that simply does not go out of style. Every generation has replicated this form, but due to high costs it is no longer crafted with this level of detail and hand craftsmanship. Measurements: 77" wide x 32-33" deep x 36 1/2" high to crest; 21" high to seat Condition Report: Visually Outstanding Condition Upholstery is stained and dirty with a few spots of bleaching on the side shown in the pictures.
