Vintage Mid Century Chinese Chippendale Asian Sofa Couch Hollywood Regency. This couch really has an incredible retro. Funky look to it. The upholstery is really great with a raised colorful floral pattern. The shape of the frame is just incredible and really unusual. It has an exaggerated pagoda influenced back that flairs out into circle rosettes at the ends. The curves of the arms mimic this architecture and gives the piece a very decorative and indulgent feel to match the very boisterous fabric. Overall this is a great piece that will look great in a mid century modern setting. Measures 34" tall x 86" wide x 34" deep. Seat height is 15" Good vintage condition. Upholstery is faded in large areas including on the back of the sofa. Cushions are hard and at least interiors should be replaced. Upholstery is in decent shape ... morewithout tears or stains and is cool enough to leave intact. The fringe is dried and crackling and should be removed and replaced. The paint is in good shape overall but does have some wear/crackling and loss. The wood is structurally sound throughout. Overall a usable item but you may want to refinish and/or reupholster. This is a Rare& Magnificent circa 1770 George III English Chippendale Style Humpback Sofa made by Kittinger of Buffalo for the Colonial Williamsburg line of Furniture and originally sold through the Craft House Catalog. This sofa is model"CW23" dates to the early to mid 1970's. The piece is fresh out of a fine estate where it was housed in the living room. This upholstery is rarely seen. It is a Chinese Ivory with Colonial Williamsburg raised blue in a floral or botanical pattern. I've included a few photos from the 1973 Craft House Catalog of this sofa, the price list shows this was one of the finest sofas you could buy. The 3 front legs are carved in the oriental fretwork motif that was popular in the late 18th century. The condition is excellent with normal very minor wear to the legs, the upholstery has no tears ... morebut this sofa was used and enjoyed. There were a few small stains here and there that I had removed. The sofa measures 73" long, 31 1/2" deep and 30" tall at the hump. This sofa is hard to find and extremely rare in this combination. I found the word Camsburg branded into the back left leg, the Colonial Williamsburg stamp is branded on the back right leg. 19th century Chinoiserie Chinese Chippendale mahogany sofa silk/cotton upolstery
In anticipation of my overseas move. Time to part with my breathtaking Chinese Chippendale style sofa. High style Chinoiserie perfected. You will never find another like this extraordinary piece of 19th century craftsmanship. Purchased in Hudson. NY in mid 1990s, no receipt, sorry) at the time it was"stage upholstered" in muslin(photo available on request) Given the elaborate carvings of Chinese pagoda. Birds in'trees' open fretwork et al I wanted something TRULY SPECTACULAR to go on it. I eventually found a 50/50 blend of silk and cotton in a glorious shade of Robin's egg(perhaps it is actually more of grayed French) blue and taupe damask with very nearly the exact motifs found on the sofa's carvings through Nina Campbell called"Chittagong" stock number NCF3230/02- perfectly matched- 11 yards(yes, I have ... morethe original receipt) anyone that has ever seen it marvels at how perfectly the fabric and the carving go together and ask if I had it custom woven. I had it reupholstered with a loose down and feather filled cushion- yes. It requires fluffing back up each time it is sat upon. Self fabric double corded trim. I did not however have the wood refinished(see detail images of carvings) yes, I have the original receipt) Two small issues to report- and detail in photos. 1st is on on the left front skirt(see photos 5 and 6 for location note noticeable when seated and you really have to look for it when standing across the room) and the 2nd is on the far right end of one side of the cushion(see photo 10 and you can'almost' make it out in photo 9) otherwise perfect. Measures in 81" in overall length. The seat is 25" deep, centre back at top of the pagoda carving is 35" tall. Four Chinese Chippendale legs and feet in the front of the sofa. Three in the back. Mahogany Chippendale Claw and Ball Foot Sofa
This Chippendale claw and ball foot. Camel back reproduction sofa and is in excellent, pristine condition. There's not a spot or stain on the anywhere on the upholstery and very clean with no need to reupholster. I purchased it in 2006 and it was rarely sat on. It measures 75" at its widest(curved arms) and 35" at its highest(back middle) I don't have the receipt but I know I paid at least $2,000 at time of purchase. It has a lot of character and is a very solid piece of furniture(not cheap wood. Etc. and would go great in any foyer, parlor room, living room, or even a bedroom.
