For the Decorative. Rare& Unusual“Those who find beautiful meanings in beautiful things are the cultivated. For these there is hope. Oscar Wilde A Good c.1930 Art Deco Period Leather Club Sofa Period: Art Deco Provenance: Unknown Date: c.1925-35 Height: 31.5 inches Width: 62 inches Depth: 36 inches(all at maximum) The early twentieth century quality leather and close studwork upholstered two-seater sofa. Hailing from the Art Deco period, having cigar shaped arms, the whole of deep and roomy proportions sitting on Deco inspired angular fanned feet. In what we like to describe as‘country house condition’ The sofa is in fair to good overall condition. She does not require re-springing or any major structural repairs and she is sturdy and with no replacement parts. The leather to the whole is of good quality and is worn, but appealingly so, ... morenow wonderfully supple. There are old patches and three tears present to include one to the lower front, four to her back, two of which are patched and one area of peel to a shoulder. Although none of the tears are too detrimental to the whole, indeed they could be repaired, she is suitably priced to reflect these imperfections. The word"club" in club chair harks back to the gentlemen's clubs in nineteenth century England where a gentleman could go to get away from his household(including womenfolk) Once there. He would sink into a well-upholstered leather chair and relax with a drink and perhaps a cigar. The names of the fashionable London streets full of such clubs are still used to name classic club chairs: St. James, Piccadilly and so on. A dictionary definition of a club chair or sofa is"A heavily upholstered piece of furniture with arms and a low back" Art deco club chairs and sofas became popular and are particularly associated with France, although in the French tradition, these may be more formal and less bouncy than chairs from Britain or the USA. For your consideration is a Stunning Vintage Mid-Century Modern. Harvey Probber era, Genuine Mohair Sofa! We purchased this sofa along with the two matching club chairs(see my other listings for the chairs) out of an office in Massachusetts where they had been since the 50's! Obviously because of this they had very little use. There is some minor rubbing to the mohair on the front corners where your hands go, and some color fading throughout from the decades, but overall a rich deep royal blue with purple notes, really great color and even better texture. We are pleased to offer this Mid Century sofa or entry table. This is rare piece which has a unique combination of Art Deco. Mid Century Modern and Rustic elements. The sofa table dates to the 1960s or 1970s. It is a 3 piece design. The table offers two substantial, pedestal, columnar legs as well as a substantial top. The top has rounded ends which pair nicely with columnar legs. All of the pieces are expertly wrapped in a beautiful Rosewood veneer which has a gorgeous grain pattern. The table top also features a center inlay of yellow pine veneer. The top has a deliberate interruption of the linear veneer pattern which is a circular design that corresponds with each leg. Inside this circular feature, a narrow band of Rosewood is inlaid in the pine veneer. This gives the top additional interest. The table top is notched underneath so that ... moreeach leg fits securely. The table is very heavy and extremely sturdy. It is in very good vintage condition. There are a few minor chips to the veneer on the top at the curved ends. There is some slight wrinkling in the veneer of the legs which is not uncommon considering the age. None of these is distracting or glaring. This is a very unique and beautiful table. The table is 66" wide and 17.75" front to back. The table top is solid and measures 4" thick. RARE ANTIQUE VINTAGE ORIGINAL ART DECO MATCHING MOHAIR SOFA CHAIR FURNITURE SET
This is a beautiful and rare set of vintage mohair furniture. I am not sure of the exact year that they were made but the latest patent date found on the tags of these pieces is 1929. They are comfortable to sit in and are a color that goes well with nearly anything. There is some noticeable wear as one would expect from furniture of this age(some fading in common areas like arm rests. A hole in the back of the chair, a small hole on the top of the sofa) but the steel springs are still good and do not sag. All the mohair and brocade is original and make these beautiful pieces that are getting harder and harder to find. The common areas of wear such as the arm rests could be easily covered with antimacassars if you dont not want to restore these pieces. The sofa measures approximately 77" wide, 33" deep, and 30" tall. The chair ... moremeasures approximately 35" wide, 35" deep, and 33" tall. Overall, a beautiful and rare set that would make a nice addition to any home. Delivery is available up to 200 miles for a charge. Antique Art Deco Sofa Couch Parlor Set
You have no idea how hard it is to part with this set. However. I'm on a student budget as of late, not working full time, and very much need to let this go. This set is absolutely beautiful, VERY unique, and I've been collecting deco furniture for quite some time. It's actually a vintage oilcloth, very sturdy, frame is in excellent condition and the original cushions/springs and decor are preserved in one of the cushions. It's an english set, and one sold on ebay for 7000 dollars in WORSE condition about a year ago- the only similar set I've seen. There is a love seat and two chairs. And it's perfect for small or large spaces as a result. I get more compliments on this than any piece I own. But, when you go from a fancy-dancy collector to a starving artist, you have to make the tough calls. I restored the linseed ... moreoilcloth as best I could and touched up many spots. But it is a little dry and cracked throughout. I never have felt it interfered with the overall look, but I did want to ship it to the folks at decodence in Dallas to do a complete restoration at some point. They have experience with embossed pieces like this, and can work miracles with this era of collectible. Unfortunately it's not something I can afford on a student budget. SO my loss is your gain. Terrific vintage 2 piece rounded mid century modern sofa is a one-of-a-kind! It is in good vintage condition with a few minor imperfections. There are a couple of stains as shown in the photos. Art Deco Blue Velvet 1930's Vintage Sofa. This richly carved and curved sofa has wonderful worn blue velvet upholstery. And dates from the Art Deco period- 1930's. The maple frame has a very good finish with artistic carving and piercing. Channel tufting on the back is authentic. Seats have zippered cushions. We have not had the upholstery professionally cleaned on this American made vintage furniture. Springs are soft and comfortable, cushions have original innersprings. Here is a Sofa and Chair Set. The lines convey classic Art Deco Styling. There is a tag under the cushions from a local fabric upholsterer, it appears as though the fabric was updated sometime in the 1950's or 1960's with high end fabric. The sofa in blue, the chair is pretty in pink. Both are trimmed with tassel fringe. The condition is quite good. Especially for their age. The sofa has some discoloration at the rear of the arms, the edge of the vertical seat pillar, and some striations along the back. If your room is not crazy well lit, you may not even notice it. Also, one small tear on a side of the couch, which I am ashamed to admit, was my fault: The tassel is the most worn aspect.
