This lot is I believe an Oil Painting of an Indian hunting. It is similar in style to the Woody Crumbo Paintings of about the same era. It is signed on the front JF and dated 52 and on the back in pencil is Jessie Foreman and the date again. Many similar to this type of painting are gouache watercolors- it may be. But for some reason, I think it is oil. I did not test it to see. After checking, I believe he is/was Cherokee and from Oklahoma. Overall it is about 11 1/2" by 17 1/2" The image is smaller- it would fit in an 8" by 10" but since the canvas is laid down on plywood, you would loose the signature.
