RARE ANGLO-SCANDINAVIAN VIKING SILVER BULLION(AK06) A very rare piece of Viking Silver Bullion found on a predominantly Anglo-Saxon and Viking site in North Yorkshire. Viking silver bullion. Jewellery style, cut/ hacked, circa 9 th to 10 th century AD. The cut silver is of a tapered rod. Sub-circular in section, bent in a similar shape to a hook. The outer edge is decorated with a beaded nodule pattern, the inner side is plain. Both ends appeared to have been cut. Possibly a fragment of a bangle or some other prized decorative object. If straight, the artefact would measure approximately 41. 61mm. Its original profile length from the tip to the curve is 25. 56mm, the width of the hook is 15. 42mm. On the side its marked 830 S. The ship rest on 4 legs or feet. There is a dragon head at each end. There is a removable clear glass liner on the inside that has a slightly beveled edge. Included with the salt is a sterling salt spoon that has a Viking ship with sails on the tip of the handle and has the same hallmark as the boat. The interior has a slightly gold wash. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The ship's feet measures 3-1/4" x 1-3/8" From dragon to dragon its approx. 3-1/8" and 1-1/4" wide and stands 2" to the top of the dragon's head. The spoon is 2-1/4" long. There is no damage to the ship other then some light green buildup at the very bottom of the hull. No cracks or chips to the glass liner.
