This cluster is composed of a number of distinct but related peoples, the most prominent of which are the Chokwe, but the cluster also includes the Lunda, Ovimbundu, Lwena, Luvala, Mbwela, and Imbangala. As a result of the complex interaction of people the region has shared stylistic elements and figural forms based upon shared mythologies and ritual practices. Masks were used during Mukanda initiation rites for young boys through a series of endurance tests. This is a vintage lot of Metropolitan Museum of Art. New York City, metal lapel pins. These pins were given as proof of payment at entrance to Museum and were worn during visit. They are no longer in use and because of that, should become collectible. There was a different color for each day. These pins were collected in 1960-70's when I visited the museum. There are 5 and all in good condition, some wear on fronts. Tradition was to recycle them when one exited the Museum. I kept these as souvenirs. They measure 1" width.

It was de-accessioned from the Metropolitan Art Museum. It was beautifully cared for there. It measures 59 inches square w ith glorious and bright colors. The shawl is very light and soft to the touch. Made from light but substantial wool. Not all shawls are equal! This shawl has a remarkably wonderful array of jewel like colors. Printed and woven very beautifully. The exquisite harmony of the design and fine color of this shawl makes it unusually beautiful quality. This is a vintage reproduction of a Stiegel bottle from the famous Henry Stiegel glass works of the 18th century. It is hand blown amethyst colored glass with a pontil on the bottom. It is marked MMA. Also on the bottom. It was purchased by my Mom from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC some years ago in the late 1960’s. This is a reproduction sterling silver sauce boat from The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The original silversmith was Pierre-Adrien Dachery c. 1768-1775 from France. The link to the original is: The height of the gravy boat is about 4 3/4 inches while the troy weight is 11.55 ounces. No monogram or signs of mono-removal exist. Normal surface scratches are present commensurate with age. But a nice patina is visible. Perfect for any astute silver collector!

The rider's right arm is broken off, as was with the original sculpture it was modeled after, and leaving an indention on the right leg where the arm/hand would have attached. I don't know what period or origin the original sculpture was from. Measurements: 5" height including base. 4.5" x 1.75" width including base. Materials: Horse and rider are some kind of metal. Renowned expert on Greek and Roman antiquities at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, received a letter from John Marshall, the Museum's veteran purchasing agent in Italy, describing a newly discovered life-size Etruscan warrior figure in terra-cotta which had been discovered in an Italian field. The"old warrior" he had a white beard and was emaciated, somewhat like, as one observer commented later, a Giacommetti sculpture) was ... moresoon followed by a massive four-foot tall terra cotta warrior's head, and there was even talk of a greater treasure waiting to be found. It was. Of course, all fakery, carried out on a grand, almost"mythic" scale, a scale meant to make experts put aside all their nagging doubts and see the"Etruscans" as what they were not(namely, ancient) The first two pieces had been created by Riccardo Riccardi and Alfredo Fioravanti, two young men of skill and a certain vision. Riccardo's father and brothers had also specialized in historic pottery, but Riccardo was the true genius of the family, and with his friend Alfredo he set out to produce"masterpieces" that would wow the world's museums. The white-bearded warrior and massive head were the first two, followed immediately after World War One by the capping stroke- a Colossal Warrior in terra cotta, standing over eight feet tall. Riccardo was killed in a fall from his horse before this project was completed and his place was taken by two less-skilled cousins. As with the earlier pieces. RARE LOVELY 1855 SOFT MUSLIN COTTON SHAWL FROM MET MUSEUM NYC This is a very early block printed and hand-painted 1855 soft cotton muslin shawl from India. It was de-accessioned from the Metropolitan Museum. It was beautifully cared for there. The tree/paisley motif repeats throughout the giant circle wreath design. As well as punctuating the design in the border. The flowers often seen in early 19th century paisley shawls are on this printed shawl: carnation, tulip, chrysanthemums, and more. It measures 43 inches square w ith glorious saturated colors. The shawl is very light and soft to the touch. Made from light but substantial muslin. India produced lovely light muslin much earlier than anyone else. Not all shawls are equal! This shawl has a remarkably wonderful array of jewel like colors. Printed and woven very beautifully. This would ... moremake a lovely gift for the holidays. If you have seen the current textile exhibition at the Met, you will realize how rare and lovely these textiles are. The exquisite harmony of the design and fine color of this shawl makes it unusually beautiful quality. The cream ground is made brighter by the lovely contrasting pink and green on brown leaf pattern and floral patterns. The colors are pink. Red. Green. Yellow. Purple. I can just see it enveloping a dress of the 19th century when dresses were so light and you needed a shawl to stay warm. It is very clean and has no smells and is very soft to the touch. There are dye marks scattered a bit from the printing process and perhaps a few minor stains. It is washable and appears to be dye-fast. The color is unfaded. There are no holes. Bites, mends. Amazing condition for this shawl. The shawl is in stable, strong condition. The selvedge is intact on two sides. The other two sides are not hemmed and have a kind of fringe resulting from the warp threads. I believe it was made this way, unhemmed. I have expertise in textiles. Here is the PERFECT tote bag to haul your shoes back& forth to the office during this never-ending winter. It is from the Metropolitan Museum of Art-I believe they had a shoe exhibit& this was one of the products they sold to commemorate it. The bag is in mint condition-no holes. Stains or problems of amy kind to report. It measures 16" wide x 10" tall x 4" deep. The handles drop down 9" So you can easily put it over your shoulder. There is one zippered pocket inside. The picture makes the interior appear to be a silver color, but that is because of the flash so you could see the condition. The interior is black. It comes from a smoke free home. For sale I have a Metropolitan Museum of Art(MMA) blue William the Hippopotamus figurine with a black Lotus flower design. Hippo is made of ceramic materials and measures approx. 8” long x 4” high x 2 ½” wide. It is marked on the underside“©MMA USA” Condition: Good clean condition with light wear from handling. I inspected him and see NO cracks. Breaks or repairs however his entire body has crazing and his left back foot has a paint rub.
