Besides an alphabetical listing of the paintings, an appendix at the back of the book lists(A) the artists represented, arranged by schools" B) a list of portraits, arranged by subject" C) classification of paintings by galleries, giving the general character of each" and(D) gallery locations of schools of painting" Inside the book, many black and white illustrations of artwork are included. In July, 1931, this ninth edition was published in New York. The book measures 8 3/4" long, 5 1/2" wide and 1" high. It is in very good condition. Two beautiful metal boxes to store your tea or cookies! These tins are from the Metropolitan Museum of Art Collection. Each is about 4.5" square by about 4.75" tall to the top of the lid. The insides are a beautiful red color as is the bottom. The design looks like a holly or pine sprig. They are in lovely used condition. There is a piece of clear tap on the top of one of the lids that we've tried to get off but it's awfully stubborn but we'll keep trying. On the other tin is the original label from MMA. The tins were designed here and made in Hong Kong. I love the wavy edge of each time. It's so much more interesting than a squared off metal box. I would use these in the kitchen. The bowl also includes a write up about the piece: A particularly unusual feature of this pattern-molded bowl is the trailed blue threading around the rim. The technique of applying closely spaced threads of glass as a decoration was used mainly in English glasshouses. The Museum's blown glass reproduction. This pin was a reproduction of a previously genuine brooch that was owned by some wealthy matron. The leaf is green enamel and there are 4 flower blossoms represented with turquoise cabachons and in the center a crystal stone. It is 2" high and almost 1 1/2" at the widest part. I believe the work was originally fashioned after the Art Nouveau artwork of Alphonse Mucha and features a Mermaid or Nude Sea Maiden holding a Trident. The solid piece measures 9 1/4" long x 1 1/4" across at the widest and it weighs over 5 ounces. The Opener is not marked as far as silver content. But appears to be silverplate. Was glued to a framed cloth board, the back of the frame was dated 1979. It was glued on with a rubbery sticky glue that easily peeled off but left a darker stain on the back. Vintage Fereira Kiddush Cup from the Metropolitan Museum
The original 19th century silver repousse ceremonial cup was probably crafted in Morocco by Solomon Fereira. Emissary from the Holy City of Jerusalem. The museum's reproduction is electroplated in silver and finished by hand. The rim on this ceremonial wine cup is engraved with a Hebrew inscription(partially abbreviated) A cup full of blessings of the Lord for the Holy Sabbath and Holy days. An elaborate foliate design embellishes each panel. This vintage cup was reproduced in cooperation with the Israel Museum. It measures 2 7/8"H x 2 1/4" dia. RARE ANTIQUE FRENCH PAISLEY SILK SHAWL, METROPOLITAN MUSEUM NY, 1870 VICTORIAN
RARE LOVELY 1870 PRINTED PAISLEY STYLE SILK SHAWL FROM METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART NEW YORK CITY This is a beautiful block printed silk shawl from late 19th century. From France. It was de-accessioned from the Metropolitan Museum. The flower motifs repeat throughout the border design. The colors are fabulous, the design unique and rare with a pinwheel motif in the center medallion, with fantasy bold designs throughout. It measures 41 inches square w ith glorious saturated colors. The shawl is very light and soft to the touch. Made from light but substantial silk, possibly from Lyon or Nimes. Not all shawls are equal! This shawl has a remarkably wonderful array of jewel like colors. Printed and woven very beautifully. The exquisite harmony of the design and fine color of this shawl makes it unusually beautiful quality. The colors are red. Two ... moreshades of green. Gold. Russet. Black. I can just see it enveloping a dress of the 19th century when dresses were so light and you needed a shawl to stay warm. It is very clean and has no smells and is very soft to the touch. There are dye marks scattered a bit from the printing process and a few minor stains. Some purple ones on one corner. The color is unfaded. There are however, quite a few small holes and tears, particularly along the border. This shawl is in good condition, but it does have issues with holes and tearing and some staining. It is actually hard to see these defects because of the lively design which is so beautiful and unique. I have expertise in textiles. Especially Indian and European shawls. This is a beautiful treasure from the best Museum collection of textiles in the US. The Met and Brooklyn Museums have integrated their collections. In the process, they have de-accessioned many gorgeous textiles, and I will be selling a few in the coming months. I can see this shawl as creating a lovely decorative accent on a sofa or bed.
