Plan of Philadelphia" Pennsylvania lovely handcolored map by S. Augustus Mitchell. Dated 1860 Sheet measures 12.5" x 15" Samuel Augustus ... moreMitchell(March 20. 1792- December 20, 1868) Senior began his map publishing career in the early 1830s. Having worked as a school teacher, Mitchell was frustrated with the low quality and inaccuracy of school texts of the period. His first maps were an attempt to rectify this problem. In the next 20 years Mitchell would become the most prominent American map publisher of the mid-19th century. Mitchell worked with prominent engravers J. H. Young, H. S. Tanner, and H. N. Burroughs before attaining the full copyright on his maps in 1847. In 1849 Mitchell teamed up with printer Cowperthwait& Company to produce the Mitchell's Universal Atlas and the Mitchell's General Atlas. In the late 1850s most of the Mitchell copyrights were bought by Desilver and Co. who continued to publish his maps, many with modified borders and color schemes, until Mitchell's son, Samuel Augustus Mitchell Junior. Entered the picture. S.A. Mitchell Jr. purchased most of the copyrights back from Desilver and, from 1860 on, published his own New General Atlas. The younger Mitchell became as prominent as his father and published atlases well into the late 1880s. Fine condition on great paper. Housed in mylar. See photo.

1972 ASCENT Magazine A Sierra Club Mountaineering Journal Vol. 1 No. 6
1972 ASCENT Magazine A Sierra Club Mountaineering Journal Vol. 1 No. 6 in very-good/near unread. But used condition. Published June 1972. 64 pages. A Rare item! Editors include Allen Steck. Chuck Pratt, Steve Roper. Ascent was published yearly 1967-1974: then there was the 1975-76 combined issue. After that: anthologies of old articles. With occasional new stories, got published every few years 1980 to the late 90's and of course it is now being published again. For young cutting edge climbers of the late 60's early 70's: Ascent was the coolest climbing publication. It featured the best and best-writting American climbers(and an occasional Brit) Great photos, and artsy stories. A collectable or museum piece from what will be remembered as the"Golden Age of American Climbing. List of articles is in a photo. I am proud to admit ... morethat although I have only climbed with one of the authors listed. I know, or have known five of them. Back Cover is a Galen Rowel photo of Moon-set from Wheeler Peak and it has a 1/2" long crack on top right side. Inside is very good with no tears. Missing pages, or dog-ears, but pg. 1& 2 have a small stain at the bottom, as shown in the photo. Also, although the cover is still blued firmly to the spine, a slight separation is starting at the bottom as shown in last photo. I store my publications carefully in a dry desert climate and there is no mildew odor. Yes-of course I own another copy of this 1972 Ascent. What serious collector of climbing history could live without it? From a Non-smoking household. Customer Satisfaction is my#1 Priority! I value and respect my customers and will definitely work with buyers to make sure everyone is pleased. Winning bidders must pay within 5 days of auction end. 1970 ASCENT Magazine A Sierra Club Mountaineering Journal Vol. 1 No. 4
1970 ASCENT Magazine A Sierra Club Mountaineering Journal Vol. 1 No. 4. Articles in this 49 page(no ads) issue include: Tis-Sa-Ack-Royal Robbins-cutting edge article by Robbins on his contentious ... moreHalf-Dome climb with Don Peterson. Four Corners-Steve Roper-Southwest climbing-great stories. The View from Deadhorse Point-Chuck Pratt-more Southwest climbs. More great stories. Up Against the Walls-Joe Fitschen-Kichatna Spires Alaska adventures. Four more stories as shown in photo of page 1. Condition Notes: Front cover(Totem Pole) shows slight wear and creases. Lower 2" of cover is torn by spine. Per photo, back cover(from a Fillmore West Poster) has age wear of print color and at bottom 1" is torn from spine. Pages 2-4 show some small yellow spots as shown in photo. This is a well-read issue and most pages show some wear, but no tears or missing pages. I store my publications carefully in a dry desert climate and there is no mildew odor. Yes-of course I own another copy of this 1970 Ascent. CHESSIE the C&O RAILROAD CAT, reference magazine, Feb88 CELEBRITY DOLL JOURNAL
When the Chesapeake& Ohio Railroad acquired Chessie the symbol. She had already gathered a lot of admirers and sealed it with an ad in the NEW YORK TRIBUNE in 1933. The February, 1988 issue of CELEBRITY DOLL JOURNAL started at the beginning and referenced the art, the train ads, the increased family, the stuffed animals and other use of the symbol, and always noting the quietly exulting comfy, homey Chessie usually asleep with a bit of tongue showing. Here are many of the ads and the branching out to valentines, playing cards, stuffed figures, toy trains and cars, then an entire Tyco Chessie Railroad System, paper dolls, clothes and fabric designs, neckties, dishes and more. There are a few other cats included at the end-for Norcross greeting cards and Mohawk bedding with Snowy cat. Mint 16 page magazine all black and white from the editor-publisher ... morewith 14 trains in pictures and art included.
