This old pig is suppose to be wise. And he does have a grin on his face. But he really looks slap happy, not too smart! Of course I always"kept the best" And"sold the rest" So this is the best of around 3 Wise Pig Banks. Hubley made this bank from 1930 through 1936, and the castings got rougher as they kept making them. That had to be the reason that most of these have rough iron. This old fellow has a very smooth nose, as you can see in the first photo. It even has a bit of a shine on it, where the paint has worn off. Older iron is smoother, newer iron is grainier. No breaks, repairs, and I can't really tell if he was ever repainted. This is how I found him. He is showing age, and the 6 photos will show him from every angle. Antique Coin Bank/Very Nice 1882 Cast Iron "Villa" (Church) by Kyser and Rex
Up for purchase is an antique cast iron coin bank in the shape of a church with red chimney. Sometimes referred to by collectors as the"Villa Bank. It was manufactured in the U.S. by Kyser& Rex with a patent date on the rear of 1882. It also look like this date is also over the door of the church. The bank base measures 3 x 4-inches in size and it stands 5.5-inches in height. The coin slot it on the roof. This bank has a somewhat complex locking mechanism. You twist the chimney 90-degress which is attached to a shaft that protrudes through the bottom. When you lift out the chimney the roof lifts up, but the roof also holds the sides in place, so they come apart as well. Consequently, you need three hands to lock it back up. The bank weighs 24.4 ounces. This bank is in excellent condition. There are no chips. Cracks, or dents in the ... moremetal surfaces. The size of this little gem is 3 1/8" high X 3 1/8 x 2 15/16" Made by the Grey Iron Casting Co. from 1903'till 1928. It was"japanned" which was just a light varnish to brighten it up. No repaint, no breaks, and no problems. Just a beautiful old dog bank stand proud. According to Moores' book, this bank was made by A.C. Williams from 1901 through the mid 1930's. This old cast iron bank has a combination door but we don't have the combination. However it can be picked. Since it was made for a child. An adult should be able to figure it out, with some time of course. Made by the Grey Iron Casting Co. from 1903'till 1928 and shown in Moore's bank book as M# 1176 rated"C" No problems and no breaks or repairs. It doesn't look like it has been repainted either. The casting mold had a flaw on the back door, and that does show on the back. It is NOT broken or cracked. I noticed that when I purchased it. And believe it or not I have seen 2 others with this same flaw! That flaw is a raised line of iron, and you can feel it with your fingernail. It does NOT hurt the bank. This is a nice estate find- a working vintage artillery bank. This is a heavy cast iron piece that is hand painted. You put the coin into the cannon and pull back the firing pin and then press the lever to fire coin into the bank. Stopper is still there. Nice condition. Measures 7.5" long and 3" wide and 5.25" tall. No idea if it is an original or a reproduction but a collector of these will. Next day shipping with tracking. Weighs almost 5 pounds.

This is one of the only cast iron banks that I do NOT agree with Andy Moore! This looks more like a radio to me. An art deco radio with a LARGE dial in the center. But to use the Moore book correctly. Either agree or do not use it! So it is M# 1355 rated"C" and it is known as a heater. However in my toy room, this deco piece looked great standing next to the radios! The 6 photos will show the condition, and of course it was purchased in PA. Lots of humidity and probably cleaning would not hurt it. That will be up to the new owner, not me! It is extra heavy, and really thick cast iron. 1930'S SITTING CAT WITH BOW TIE CAST IRON BANK GUARANTEED OLD & AUTHENTIC CI 563
This little girl is sometimes confused with the"Kitty Bank" They do sit next to each other in Moore's book. But they are different if you look closely. The paint shows wear, but her face is still sweet. She is rolling her eyes and has almost a smile. Yes cats can smile. The base shows her closure is missing. It was a slid or pop in. The base is NOT broken. Just missing the closure. Probably some little child decided to take out all of the coins, and just never replaced it. Since I don't do anything to any old items, this was as I found it. Shown in the Moore Bank Book M# 350 and rated a C. Original paint, and never repaired or broken. This is a Antique Cast Iron Safe Bank Patented June 2 1886. We also have other banks in our ebay store. This bank would be a nice addition to any collection of antique and vintage banks! There is a remaining patina of gold paint on the panels that I assume was probably original to the bank but I do not know for sure. The casting includes a June 2 1886 patent date in a horseshoe pattern on the bottom as you can see. But probably not read, in a closeup photo. I saw an attribution to one of these banks as being made by J E Stevens. I do not know have any first hand knowledge as to whether or not that is correct. Any that are painted with colors do not have the original paint. In the late 1960's Hurbert Whitings' wife did paint some of the old banks. This ornate little cash register is shown in Moore's Bank Book as M# 930 rated"B" Produced by the J. E. Stevens company in the 1920's. So you know how nice it must be. Stevens made great quality banks and toys. There is a light hairline crack near the screw, and it may not show in the photo. But it is there. Not a big deal, but good to know before falling in love with it. I was NOT told of it before I purchased it. However I still loved it! I did lower the price for that tiny crack. The repro people have made copies of this as well. Again the new ones are junk! To get the money out you have to use a key to open the"drawer.
