It has an exquisite Victorian style and done with an abundance of intricate ornate detailing throughout. The legs are made from very thick cast iron and have a nice gold gilded finish which has acquired a lovely patina from age. it is made of two curved pieces of iron which are connected in the center by decorative ornate bolts. they are very ornate and have a gorgeous bird/figural scene on both sides. the tabernacle is made from cylindrical textured amber glass which rotates on a recess to open and close. it has a hand carved wooden top and bottom which have nice color and are connected to very ornate 6 sided brass shafts. they are very ornate. Done in high relief, and fastened with ornate sprouting flowers iron bolts on top. there is also a very ornate large solid iron finial in the center. the piece is in exquisite condition and is extremely rare. There is one small condition issue as shown in the last photo. the edge of the curved glass is chipped but can be hidden when closed as shown in the photo. it will be dismantled for shipping to avid any damage. This is in great vintage condition. No broken pieces. Some rust on the bottom. Silver color is still nice on the sides with some discoloration the top has a nice brass color on top some light rust on a couple of the towers. Listing this evening one of my favorite items of all time. Although some other unscrupulous Ebay seller stole almost every line from my original ad to sell his OWN Otis block of iron a few weeks ago I'll relist this chunk of iron almost exactly as I originally wrote it. The only difference between his ad and mine is the shipping charge. Cast Iron Cigar Smoking Bulldog Mechanical Bank
This auction is for a vintage cast iron mechanical bank of a bulldog smoking a cigar and wearing a derby hat. on the base it says cigar 5 nickles. Then on side it says ole puffer on each end. It measures about 3 inches wide x 5 inches long x 8 inches tall. To get the bank to work you pull on his tail and his mouth drops open to put a coin in and it will swallow the coin down into the bank part. The bottom plus is there made of cast iron and twist to loosen and tighten. This has sat for years on display, sometimes in a garage and has signs of beginning rust, mild paint rub. Shown as M# 1146 rated"A" This still looks like an old school house to me! Size 4 1/8 X 3 3/8 X 2 3/4" and it has not been repainted, repaired and only has one flaw. Did you notice the tiny piece of missing iron on the center of the door? Neither did I when I purchased it. And of course the seller didn't mention it to me! That flaw may have been in the casting, because the spot is very smooth, and doesn't look filed down. I can't be sure, but it is an"as found. Vintage Army Safe Cast Iron Bank
Here for purchase is a vintage cast iron bank that says Army Safe on the front. This item is approximately 4 inches x 3 inches x 2 1/4 inches. The item is in good condition. There is some surface wear in the form of oxidation/rust and some discoloration. However. Any wear is just on the surface and there is no corrosion through the metal. I do not know the exact date of this bank, but my research indicates that it is from the early 1900s. There is no manufacturer listed on the bank. This bank has a slot on the top. There is a combination lock on the front door. The combination knob does have a small chip. The door closes fine, as I found out. I did not know the combination at that time, but my wife figured it out. If the bank closes, then the combination that work for use was R 8 and L 2. If that does not work, you can get it open by fiddling ... morewith it until the two inner locks on the combination line up, so do not despair if you accidentally close it. This old Policeman has"ARCADE" embossed on his back. The 6 photos will show him from every side. Right down to the paint worn off from age. No breaks, no cracks, and he's never been repaired or repainted. He looks mean, but that's just the paint missing, and that's not his fault! They have reproduced some banks like this, but to see one would tell you it is new. Rough like gravel or concrete, and that's just how the new ones come out. For sale is an 1884 cast iron mechanical elephant bank with a blanket on his back and 3 stars on the blanket. This mechanical bank measures 9" long. 5" tall and about 2.5" wide. The elephant's trunk has a groove to hold the coin, and when you push the tail, the trunk deposits the coin into the bank. This is a rare find for collectors. This bank was advertised in the 1884 winter catalog of the Elrich Brothers. A screw holds the two sides of the elephant bank together and you unscrew it to remove the coins from the bank.
