A bound volume of the entire year of 1948'The Model Craftsman Magazine' These magazines are very early issues of what. A couple years later, became Model Railroad Craftsman magazine focusing entirely on trains at that point. These issues are in mostly excellent condition with only a couple corner tears here and there although the first 18 pages of May are together but loose. Not a big deal considering the volume as a whole. Can be reglued if so desired. Hardcover volume is excellent, solid& tight. Each issue comes with exciting vintage plans, advertisements and articles for building and supplying model trains, race cars, airplanes and boats. This year, 1948 began to focus mostly on trains. JAZZ REVIEW Magazine, 1958-1959,Complete years, bound w covers,Rare,VG Cond all
13 issues. Bound with front and back covers, by an unsuperstitious devotee. Two complete years, vol 1, 1 is November 1958, runs complete to vol 2, 11, Dec 1959, they did not put out an issue in March, so there are two complete years here. There is a slight musty smell, else in fine condition, boards great, tight binding, no flaws I can see on the pages; no marks, damping foxing or the like. Sort of a scarce title, especially in complete runs, only published to 1961, but the gist is it was a forum largely for musicians to write about jazz, and about other musicians. Perhaps this may have been its downfall, because some of the reviews were vicious, small world to be this way, the jazz community, but these guys would cut each other's work to shreds, fascinating reading, some real experts and some real depth, I went through it page by page, ... moreit is that good. I'd also note some good coverage of lesser known players, and last, a really interesting multi part study of the influences of Gospel music onto the Jazz scene. WIKI has a nice overview of the publication: The Jazz Review was a magazine which was founded by Nat Hentoff, Martin Williams, and Hsio Wen Shih, in New York City in 1958. It was published until 1961. Hentoff and Williams were co-editors throughout its brief existence. I found one color plate(see photos) though there should have been at least one or two more, if not yet more. indexed for the year 1915 only. 8.5x10.5" and about 2" thick. 1176 pages. I checked eBay for the last few weeks.
