The first edition of this reference work came out in 1932. And like this one is reflective of the styles in that day as well as accepted architectural standards. All editions feature both the science and art of building utilitarian objects, whether it is structure, function, materials, mechanical drawing or any other facet covered in the 23 sections(please enlarge text pics. Saarinen wrote his foreword in 1956 for the first printing and by this 12th one he had been dead 5 years, but he left behind a legacy of architecture and design worldwide. His Tulip Chair is a cult/decor icon from its use on the set of Star Trek, and in the furniture section are featured architectural drawings of tables, benches, chairs, school and office furnishings, etc. made by Knoll, Herman Miller, Finsvin, Paul McCobb, Jens Risom, Haywod Wakefield, Brunswick and others. Everything from the size of 1953-55 cars to the size of light bulbs, Sun maps to calculate shade- an incredible compendium of reference for architect, builder, decorator, landscape architect or homeowner with designs of your own. Book is hardcover and has no marking or unsightly soiling, tight in cover and in shape to be used well into the 21st Century with reasonable care. GOOD used condition.
