Lost to legs, cracks, chips, overall condition good. Thank you and please view my other items. BACKGROUND Komaland is located south of Burkina Faso border in Northern Ghana. In the valleys between Sisilli and the Kulpawan rivers. The people of Komaland are mainly farmers, growing corn, millet, onions, tomatoes, and various types of nuts. Until 1985 very little was known about this mysterious culture. The previous 20 years farmers have found terracottas in the ground, but knew nothing of their history. Their value was soon recognized by scholars. In March and April of 1985 a permit was issued to excavate the Komaland site. Since then more information about this unique culture has filtered out. The present-day village is built around and on numerous archaeological sites. Many of the pieces found today and in the past 30 years were found in burial mounds; the mounds contained terracotta figures, domestic pottery, milling stones, pottery discs, iron ornaments, copper ornaments, iron implements and stone axes. A custom base is included with this piece. It is important to properly exhibit a beautiful piece of art. The splendor of the piece cannot be fully revealed without a correct display. Custom bases can cost a minimum of thirty and up to several hundred dollars depending on its complexity and size. It is very difficult to locate a good stand maker regardless of price. But fortunately this piece will be appropriately displayed and ready for you and your guests’ enjoyment. Painter Fred U

5'10" x 8' Oval Chinese Art Deco Oriental Rug - Hand Made - 100% Wool - Full Pile This Oriental rug is a gorgeous oval 5'10" x 8' Chinese Art Deco. This ... more30 year old hand made Chinese rug is made with 100% wool, has a full pile and is in perfect condition. Antique Chinese Rugs and Carpets as opposed to most of the antique rug productions were woven almost exclusively for internal consumption. Since they were mostly sheltered from European and western influences, this offers us the reason why these carpets have a very unique truly ethnically Chinese look and appeal. Only during the early part of the 19th century did they open their markets to the countries of the west (for rugs – they have been exporting porcelain, bronzes, wooden and other works of art for many years prior to the 19th century).

4’8" x 6’10" Antique Persian Bijar Oriental Rug - 1930s - Hand Made - 100% Wool This beautiful rug is an antique 4’8" x 6’10" Persian Bijar circa 1930s. ... moreThis hand made Persian Bijar rug is made with 100% wool, has a full pile, and is in great condition. Bijar rugs (the 'Iron Carpet of Persia') are mainly woven by Kurds in Gerus and Afsha areas of Persia. These rugs are unique in that they use two wefts making the carpet extremely heavy, stiff and durable. A thicker weft is beaten down tightly between rows of knots alongside a thinner weft in order to make the pile compact, so thick and dense that it stands vertically, preventing it from lying down. Bijar rugs are exceptionally tough, however, they should not be folded for transportation (they should be rolled) to prevent the tight foundation from cracking.

The designs usually involve some repeat pattern, or diaper, such as the herāti, in which a diamond lattice pattern peeps through a tangle of blossoms and leaves or through intricate versions of the boteh, a leaf with curling tip.
