They are embossed in high relief with figures of classical Gods. Putti and dolphins based on the designs of Etienne Delaune(1519-83) the French goldsmith responsible for the finest decorative designs for French armor of the period, in particular embossed parade shields. The central motif is of Venus, Mars, and Cupid. The remaining armor include a half armor(John Higgins Woodman Armory Museum, Worcester Mass. JWHA 2549) comprising breastplate, back, articulated tassets, pauldrons and full arms. The breastplate of that armor has been modified in the early 17th century by removing approximately the bottom third to conform to then current fashion. A pair of gauntlets from one of the armors belonging to the Metropolitan Museum of Art was loaned for display with that armor. A helmet of one of the armors is in the collection of the Museo Stibbert, Florence. This cuirass is unaltered as made and the only portion in private hands. The deep peascod form of this breastplate, a reflection of clothing fashion of the period, can be compared to a breastplate in the Royal Armories, Leeds, III.1218. A breastplate of similar form is worn by King Henry III of France in a portrait by Francois Cloute. The decoration can be compared to the incomplete armor in the National Army Museum, Paris illustrated in the catalog, p. 53/4 and, Bruno Thomas Die Munchner Harnischvorziechnungen mit Rankendekor des Etienne Delaune. Details: A fine Turkish Ottoman Shamshir from the 17th century to mid 18th century. Handle is composed of horn grips with brass fitting in the midsection. Brass flower motif and brass studs. Hilt is brass with horizontal guard. Blade is curved and has is in excellent condition considering its age. The usual signs of age are apparent but nothing major very much an unspoilt piece. Antique Italian 4/4 Size violin Possibly 17th century David Tecchler Roma 1674 !
Antique Italian Violin. 24 3/4" long 9 1/4" wide at bottom of body 7 1/4" wide at top of body 1 5/8" edge to edge on side about 2 3/4" at thickest point. Violin has wear several splits on front front of body alot of play wear on back of body but no cracks. Neck and peghead seem to be in good shape some wear on back of peghead. Some wear on edge of body. One small split on edge. One side of front of neck has a slight bevel on one side ene to end. Tailpiece present no case or bow. Tuning post present but not in place. Label on inside reads David Tichler Roma Anno 1679( I think) the label is very worn and hard to make out what it reads exactly. I know the bracket on which the clock sits is not as old! Here is a very rare 16th or 17th century iron clock in working condition and still keeping quite reasonable time after so many years. I would estimated this clock at around c.1580 however the anchor escapement would date it 100 years later around c.1680/90. The anchor escapement was invented around 1675. Therefore. If this is the original escapement, ... moreit places the movement around 1680-1690 or so. If, as so many original Verge Escapements, it was replaced with the anchor, then it would be c.1580. I do guarantee that this clock is the real deal, NOT a reproduction. Probably French or English. Often called a"blacksmith" clock, it is made from forged iron. The clock has a working chime bell and original hammer. The original dial is a metal plate and pewter chapter ring done by hand. This clock always had just one hand, the hour hand which is original, it never had a minute hand. The metalwork and forged rose head rivets are wonderful and reminiscent of a time gone by. Other than a couple iron pins and old brass bushings, this movement looks all original. The rack on which it sits is newer. Still hand forged iron and tastefully made with the fashionable turned ends. Interesting how the rope threads through the rack to activate the pulley and chime. The dial is 7+3/4 by 7+3/4 and the clock is 7" deep. This clock is probably French or English as the dial very closely resembles a dial form the Albert Odmark Collection that was identified as such. It was in a royal estate in Marbella, Spain where it was originally crafted centuries ago. The table has been under the possession of Austrian royalty for as long as anyone is able to trace. Experts place the tables inception around the late 16th century. We have been conservative in our description, and dated it around 1715. Research on tables like this one will show that they sell between 16k and 24k depending on size and length. Rare Original Late 17th Century Fruitwood Joint Stool With Original Top c1700. A beautiful and rare late 17th century fruit wood joint stool. With original fruit wood top. The stool has suffered from worm damage to the tops of the legs under the seat where the grain was left open, the top to each leg has been spliced and repaired where old wood has been cut out and replaced(see images) There is no active worm left and these repairs are most likely over 100 years old. The original top is present, and been re-fixed with handmade pegs, there is also evidence of old black tape to underside of the top, when the repairs were carried out most likely in the late 19th century. The stool is peg jointed throughout. All the legs and stretchers are original and none of the feet have been tipped. The whole piece has the most wonderful colour and patination, ... moreit really glows and the overall colour is most pleasing. Lovely moulded detail to all the original friezes, tops of the upright turned legs and stretchers, with lovely genuine wear also evident to the stretchers. Sturdy throughout with no play to the joints. Rare to find a genuine example in fruit wood, thankfully the restoration was done sympathetically and we still have a very rare piece in good usable condition. The details on the dragon are very well made, while it is flying on the clouds I believe there is a pearl it is looking at. On the bottom of the box there is a wavy blue and white design. The condition of the box is very good, except there is one chip on the rim, as you can see in the photos with the finger pointing towards it. Other then that the box is ready to go. When I bought this beautiful manuscript. It was written in the auction description: made in around 1500" So over 500 Years ago. The same is mentioned in the typed description. Found in the inside cover of the book. In my opinion. This Antiphonarium made later, most likely in the 17th. Century. So I trust here myself more than others, and sell it as 17th. Century manuscript. Bound in beautiful calf leather with two claps. 110 handwritten on vellum pages forming 55 numbered leaves! Several painted initials are present. This is a beautiful book. A very rare section from a Sino-Tibetan ceremonial trumpet or dung horn. C. 16th-17th century. Copper with extensive remains of silver overlay, decorated with a raised image of a Makara. The workmanship and detail on the decorated areas are superb, typical of the fine craftsmanship found in Buddhas and ritual objects of the late Ming and very early Qing periods. Trumpet is in excavated condition as seen. Misshapen and with losses. There is visible green and red oxidation. Even in its excavated state, a highly collectible item. 17th century Christian Egyptian Coptic Bible Manuscript Book of 388 pages

This is a beautiful COPTIC Lectionary or Qatamarus Manuscript. Consisting of 194 leaves or 388 pages. This manuscript has_ ADD total number] large initial letters(see the 12 scanned images for a very small number of them) Also. Notice that sometimes a large initial letter is turned into something else: for example, the letter"A" or"Alpha" is turned into a bird-monster(see the 8th scanned image, 1st from the bottom) and an"O" is turned into a human face(see the 11th scanned image, 2nd from the top) AFTER the last page of handwritten text. There is a blank sheet, and holding it up to the light, one sees a most unusual watermark in the paper, consisting of a row of ... morethree horizontal crescent moons that have a human profile face in the moon; very unusual. This manuscript is written in the Bohairic Coptic dialect. With some Christian Arabic words. Dated to the 17th century by Dr. Marian Robertson Wilson. Who also identified the daily readings, as being made from Psalms, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, and many other New Testament quotations. The page size is about 9 in. x 13 in.
