The figure comes from one of the Cameroon groups, most probably the Bamileke. The encrusted patina indicates the figure was receiving offerings and sacrificial materials. Among the Bangwa. Bamun, and Bamileke people ancestor figures, though formally stored in shrines, were also displayed outside royal huts on important occasions, and were thus prone to deterioration. The art of the grasslands area of Cameroon is a royal art, devoted to the veneration of ancestors and the enrichment of the Fon, the main chief of the individual"kingdoms. The large figures carved for and presented to the Fon, fall generally into two forms: representations of the Fon or one of his wives, and carvings of individual ancestors. These are stored in shrines and guarded by individuals appointed by the Fon. They are a representation of his power, and brought out only on special occasions. Chinese(Qing/ Ching Dynasty) Jun Yao Jug(17th-19th century) This is a fine Jun Yao jug. These were first created in the Yuan Dynasty(1280-1368 C.E. however. It is likely this example was produced during the Qing(or Ching) Dynasty(1644-1911 C.E. This particular piece is has superb coloring, typical of the finest Jun Yao porcelains featuring the characteristic variegated shades of pale blue, lavender and darker purple, gently fading to a soft olive-mushroom color towards the mouth rim. 17th Century Wood Dutch Door Portal
I purchased this piece in an antique store in Paris in the 1980s. It was represented as a 17th Century Dutch door portal. But I have no independent way to know if this is correct as to date or location. For nearly 30 years it hung over a door in my house but I have no place for it now. It is deeply carved with robed figures on chariots pulled by galloping horses, both to the right and the left. And there are putti over the center. It measures 44" by 6 1/2" I do not know the type of wood. There are worm holes, but they existed at the time I bought it. A stunning architectural piece, either at eye level or over a door.

Riding on a lion. A mongoose sits on a lotus under his left foot. His right hand holds a citron or lemon(a symbol of fertility) The character of Jambhala or Vaisavana is founded upon the Hindu deity Kubera. But although the Buddhist and Hindu deities share some characteristics, each of them has different functions and associated myths. Although brought into East Asia as a Buddhist deity. ANTIQUE ANCIENT AFRICAN TERRACOTTA KOMA BURIAL FIGURE GHANA c 15th-17th Century
GJPaw Auctions is very pleased to offer a Rare Koma Burial Figure. The figure is an excavated burial piece from a 15th to 17th century tomb in the Komaland area of northern Ghana. These figures were first discovered by locals of Yikpabongo village in the 1960s during the process of excavating mud for building village houses. Soon after their discovery. Archaeologists started professional digs in Yikpabongo and examples of these terracottas started appearing in museums and for sale in European galleries. Interest in these terracottas grew and in 2000 they officially appeared on the ICOM Red List. Many of the terracottas found are broken fragments and only heads, but this piece is a full figure and a figure that appears in"janus form" with two faces. Antique 17th century French 5 piece bedroom set
This bedroom set was purchased by my parents over 20 years ago from one of the leading antique stores in southern California for close to 20.000.00. At various points in its history, before being purchased by my family, restorations were completed. Not all hinges match(one hinge broke which is why one door off the armoire is presently removed) The bed was modified to fit a queen size mattress. There are some dings however it is in incredible condition for its age! It is a truly impressive set. With the right bedding it can match any style even contemporary given the black marble. Brass drop handles are correct for period and have considerable age but the cupboard has had another set of handles at some point in its history. Minor dings. The larger than average proportions indicate that this press cupboard was made for a grand and wealthy household. Original fossilised oak top is very solid. Although there is some wear/losses to edges. All original pegs to top are present, also evidence of additional period iron nails. All original friezes and stretchers, none of the feet re tipped or spliced. All peg jointed throughout. Heavy example with bold proportion, baluster turned legs, interesting shallow and deep friezes to sides, both with moulded inside edges. Measures 21 1/4" high x 18 1/2" wide x 13 3/4" deep.

INIDA MEASUREMENTS: height: 24cm = 9.4 in DESCRIPTION: consisting of three parts: Shiva- Nandi- base Shiva with four arms carrying his attributes such as the trident. He is standing on a base of rectangular layout. Shivas right leg is resting on Nandi- his designated riding animal. A bull. Traces of red sacrifice paste retained. The statue is in good condition while frequent touching visibly affected the appearance of it's surface over time. Little bolts keeping the parts in position may be added later. On Nandis horns tiny fissures can be seen but the parts are rock-solid. Probably indicating a former restauration. Antique Large Solid Brass Mortar & Pestle Civil War 17th 18th Century Apothecary
Here is a Large Antique Solid Brass Mortar& Pestle which could have been used in the Civil War. It is probably from the 17th or 18th Century. But I am not positive on exactly when it was made. It would have been found in an Apothecary or pharmacy. I purchased it at the Estate sale of a Doctor from Erie Co. PA. The mortar and pestel together weigh about 7 1/2 pounds, the mortar is about 5 1/4" tall and about 5 1/8" in diameter across the top. The pestel is a little bent and is about 8 1/4" long. Both have lots of dings in and on them and the mortar has some stains inside. It is functional or it would be a great display piece for any doctor or pharmacist.
