17th Century Wood YAD Dutch Find
I have had this piece for quite a few years and always thought it was a pipe tool until someone pointed out that it is a Yad. It makes sense as it was dug in the old Jewish area of Amsterdam the Waterlooplein during the building of the metros there years ago. It has markings on the center(not Hebrew) Everything found with it was 17th century including some kosher lead seals etc. I would imagine these from this period and being wood are rather scarce. A TRUE FRENCH RENAISSANCE OAK& WALNUT CABINET CIRCA 16TH& 17TH CENTURY! to start a new paragraph use- Without a doubt the earliest find I have ever made is this absolutely exquisite French Renaissance oak and walnut cabinet circa 16th& 17th cabinet. The center mass which incorporates the doors and sides has tremendous early Renaissance motifs. Italian influenced carving symbolism was merged into a French style, The use of architectural decoration includes vaulted pilasters& urns, oval panels below grotesque figures makes a very powerful statement. Deeply carved scrolls surround each unique masque. Finger carved dentils surmount frieze. Notice the spirals between each finger. The area of the casebetween the red ribbons note of the photos is period a very good and historically accurate cabinet maker sat the original case on ... morea later hand made base probably during the Renaissance Revival Period Circa 1880. He further restored the piece by adding a crown moulding above the frieze. The interior doors are additions and behind are split sections with shelving. The original dark finish is typical of the Renaissance and has been rubbed with oil for many decades. This cabinet is very heavy and has the original section it is thick and dense. These pieces in their day acted as a safe. This is a one of a kind survivor saved by an intelligent cabinet maker before his time. The common Kali stylized motiff/ Very stylized inscription"Ranga Rau" 8mm. 0.34 grams. Scarce. Herrli 3.01.01. The gold on these coins is fairly debased. Around 14-16 karats. This type was minted by the uncertain Soutehrn Indian rulers, possibly in the name of Rangaraya III of Vijayanagar(1642-1672) The English and the Dutch struck the imitations of these coins slightly later. w32288)

I was fortunate enough to acquire the collection of Richard Seidel. Consisting of many fine artifacts from across the country. The main focus was PA and northeast, but also included many nice central state pieces, as well as some western artifacts. Rich" as he is called, was an active member of IACANE(Indian Artifact Collectors Association of the North East) and was even the Treasurer for a number of years. He hunted many of the fields in Danville, PA along the Susquehanna River, as well as collected other pieces from the surrounding areas. This is the last major listing of the Seidel collection. There will be a few pieces here and there, including some nice PA Jasper) but for the most part this is all. 17th 18th century hand painted tiles set square biblical antique vintage RARE
I purchased these in San Francisco from a very reputable dealer I've worked with over the years. He told me these were 17 th century but I have no way of proving their age. It's abundantly clear they are very. Very old. The glaze used for painting the images is a really pretty eggplant with widely varying tones depending on how the artist wanted the shading to look. There appears to be Bible references written at the base of each tile. There is a fair amount of chipping at the top of the one marked MAT:27:24 although they each have their'issues' with respect to condition. NO CRACKS and could be set into grout easily. Original Continental Zischagge. 17th century Up for a sale is fine lobstertail helmet. Aka Zischagge, dating back to the first quarter of the 17th century. Its origin is likely Flemish(perhaps Dutch) The helmet is in amazingly good/good condition showing some minor rust patina with some areas of light pitting(a light polish/cleaning will remove most of it) The helmet has a fluted one-piece skull. The apex fluted finial on a large oval washer; the helmet's lower edge is riveted with a narrow band having a sawtooth panel above and a plain panel below. The front is fitted with a rounded brim pierced for the sliding nasal. The nasal's finial and wing nut show the popular fleur-de-lys pattern. The back edge with neck defense of your riveted lames, each with undulating upper edge. Cheek pieces of three lames with rolled rims and the upper ... moresections show a circular piercing pattern. This piece was originally believed to be 17th century but after taking it to a local appraiser we learned it was a 19th century reproduction. Even though it is a reproduction he did say it was most likely made mid 19th century. It was a free verbal appraisal so there is no paperwork. After doing quite a bit of research I found only original pieces for sale and they had different various inner box's. An excellent and unusual 17th Century Military Officer's Cavalry Broadsword. Most likely carried by an officer and with a very substantial multi-fullered blade. Deeply stamped to both blade fortes and with traces of original impressed lettering to the top of the blade. The hilt is quite unusual and features a pierced guard that is reminiscent in style to contemporary Spanish main-gauche daggers- it is possible that this sword had an accompanying main-gauche dagger and the hilt of the broadsword imitated the design. Description Here is a nice 17th century halberd in good original condition with its original wooden handle. The iron halberd head has a nice decorative fluked axe shape with a long four sided point. On the surface of the point are star shaped makers marks which can be seen in the photos. On both sides are engraved faces similar to the faces seen on English 17th century civil war mortuary swords. One of the flooks has a small brass collection tag attached to it. On one side of the head is an iron serpent with its mouth open which indicates this halberd was also used as an artillery linstock as a slow burning fuse could be held in the serpents mouth. The original octagonal wooden handle has a nice dark patina from age with brass head nail decorations. The handle has at some point been shortened to its current length.
