They are in excellent condition with some minor dents in the bases and there is one small pin hole in the base of one. They measure 7 1/2" tall and 5 1/4" diameter round base. A rare pare to find! Beautiful piece from 17th century France. Frame for mirror can be detached via hand carved wooden screws. Some work was done on one of the leg attachments with Gorilla glue. Not appropriate but fixable, and while mirror is not attached it would be easy to add hardware accessories. Color in pictures is not accurate, wood is a warm maple color and marble on desk top is a wonderful red rock color. Unique 17th Century French Secretary Drop Front Desk
What's the difference between an antique and a treasure? This is a museum quality piece of furniture with an amazing history! Comes from a Chateau in France that was built in 1316. This beautiful desk is at least 400 years old and survived a laceration from the Nazi's that confiscated the Chateau during World War II. This unique desk has a slant front with a beautiful marquetry floral design on the front. The wood appears to be walnut with several different fruit woods as a veneer. There are six drawers in the interior and a shelf above them for storage. There is a secret compartment in the center and locks within the secret area to lock the two drawers in front. The condition is very solid.there are several repairs made to the surface from the damage that was done. But the restoration was well done. Middle to Late 17th Century Joint Type Construction Meeting House Bench
Here's a bench like I've never come across in my 50 years of dealing with antiques. Looks to be of birch and shows every intimate detail of being from the middle to late 1600s. Certainly no later than 1710 or so. Constructed using the same techniques as the more common joint stools. Because of the excessive length we believe it's from a meeting house or some other public gathering facility. Hopefully it is of American heritage but in all honesty it may be from across the pond. Of course. If it is an import it could be earlier. It comes to light and for sale from the Glens Falls Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, New York. It's been secreted away in a little dark back room in the basement for longer than any of the parishioners can remember. With triple paneled back with intricate work along top freeze. The quality of the carving throughout would appear to be by the same hand. Stylized leaf decoration carved to back panels, arms and legs. There are repeated carvings to body and along the bottom rail and to the pillars of each side of settle, with pegged construction and mortise and tenon joints. You are bidding on an antique 17th century polearm known as glaive or couteau de breche in French. The French name explain what this weapon was originally used for"Knife for Breaching" would be a translation for it. The original ones were shape as a simple knife especially in 13th 14th century and in Germany and France and had a reinforced tip but they were very long heavy polearms with huge heads designed to breach the enemy cavalry. The Italian ones took a more exotic shape like the one I am selling and in 17th century they usually were decorated and had a hook or spikes on the spine being somehow assimilated with another polearm known as Fauchard. ... moreIn the early 17th century these disappeared from the battlefield. In Italy however the Glaive and the Fauchard were used during the entire 17th century not as combat weapons but they were fashionable used by personal guards and bodyguards of high end families and important people. Most of the examples of Fauchard at Metropolitan Museum are designated as have been used in this fashion. The one I am selling is one of these Parade/personal guard ones. The blade is decorated on both sides in 16th century fashion where the decoration were first etched and then the details were engraved. The blade is forged not cast and the tip still is a bit thicker being reinforced like the older glaives. The blade shows different images on the sides maybe with a meaning as on one sides battle scenes are depicted and on the other musical instruments.maybe depending on which face was shown to a guest it mean that he good pass or not(just an assumption) Another interesting feature is that towards the tip there are 4 encircled spaces that had engraved the Monogram of the Family this belonged but time almost completely erased the engraving please see photos. A fine original and very large genuine Safavid tinned copper wine bowl. The bowl of deep hemispherical form. With elevated rim. Standing on a short foot. Engraved around the body with a wide band of entwined split-palmettes. Between two rows of meandering floral vines featuring a frieze of calligraphy on a hatched ground. Arcade motifs near the foot. The foot also engraved with vine decoration. Size; 8. 1/2 inches( 22 cm) high. 11. 3/4 inches( 30 cm) wide. Condition; fine. 17th Century Dutch Heemskerk
A nice brass or bronze 17th century heemskerk ca. 1650. It has 2 holes at the top to remove the wax. And a nicely turned drip pan. The turnings are nice and sharp. It has a slight tilt to it and the drip pan will turn a little, but otherwise the condition is excellent It measures 8 1/4" tall x 3 3/4" across the base. I only accept Paypal. Mexican 17th-18th Century glass trade bead necklace
Highly collectible and very rare 17th-18th Century. San Pedro de Quiatoni glass bead necklace from Oaxaca, Mexico. These tear drop beads are Venetian/Oaxacan, as there is still ongoing debate as to whether or not they were imported from Venice or made in the burgeoning Mexican glass factories of the same period. Acquired in my travels in Mexico more than 15 years ago. Total height of necklace is approximately 10" and each bead measures 2.5. 16th/17th Century Antique Joined Oak Center or Side Table - Medieval Pilgrim Era
Fine Items from ALittleUnlimited Description An unusual and rare joined oak table dating to the late 1500's or 1600's featuring legs that are cut in a silhouette emulating turned legs and joined by stretchers around the base and an with a three board top. The three boards pegged together from beneath and the top pegged to the base. It was made by a joiner who did not have access to a lathe but wanted shaped legs rather than square legs. It measures 27" tall. 30" wide and 21" deep. This 400(plus or minus) year old table has a beautiful old finish and patina and shows age appropriate wear. One of the corner edges of the top has been replaced with a piece that was skillfully carved to match the jagged edge. The top was reinforced at some point with two cross boards that can be seen in the photographs. With the apron having ... morebeen cut out to accomodate them. Antique Islamic Astrolabe. Possibly 17 th century. This piece features a four pointed compass and moveable nomen. The brass front has an engraved dial which looks to be engraved in 30 x 5 minute divisions. There are Arabic( markings all over the dial and the case front. On the case-back there are symbols and further Arabic( markings. The compass dial is engraved with four divisions which are each engraved with smaller divisions. T here is a primitive ring to the top. In general it is in good condition consistent with age. And showing some patches of verdigris. The compass is functioning. Due to the problems with insurance we will despatch abroad using a shipping service providing a'no quibble' insurance cover. Hence the higher costs.
