Additional storage is found below the desk area consisting of an area with a ornate door measuring 20" x 14 1\2" deep. The drawer below this storage area measures 2" x 14 1\2" deep x 5" High. To the left of the desk is a tall shelf area with four adjustable shelves for storage or acting as a bookcase again having fine ornate wood carving over the glass door front. The ornate carvings on the front of the fold-down desk and upper glass door appear Victorian. Work is needed for refinishing this piece to bring it back to its original beauty. Condition: Used Location: Star City, United States I am not an expert but an antique furniture appraiser looked at this piece recently and stated this is a unique desk that he's never seen one quite ... morelike it. It was likely made in the early 1900's. Made of oak. And has a spooncarved front. There are no identifying markings. It is in excellent shape and it has the original finish. Brass fittings show a bit of tarnish but should clean up easily with a little TLC. Three of the posts on the brass rail at the top are loose but can be easily secured with a little bit of attention. One of the rail ends is stripped so that will need to be secured as well. Otherwise this piece is ready for your home. I would be happy to provide more detailed photos if requested. I hate to part with such a beautiful and unique item but we no longer have the room and it just doesn't fit our decor. The dimensions are 40 1/2” tall its tallest point. 33 1/2“ wide at its widest point at the base, and 19” deep when closed,and 34“ deep when opened. Local pickup only.

For your consideration, this fabulous and very impressive Tall Victorian Rococo Flame Mahogany Secretary with Arched Bookcase ... moreTop(Circa: 1860) This gorgeous two-piece Secretary weighs approximately 170 pounds and measures 102 ½” in total height(from the floor to the arched top of the crown) 44 ¼” in width, and 20 ½” in depth. The three adjustable shelves each measure 9” in depth and 41 ¼” in width. This is truly one of the most beautiful Victorian Secretaries of its kind that we have had the privilege to offer. You will notice that there is some faint writing on the back of the piece(see the e-Bay photo) that probably indicates either the maker or the person for whom the piece was made. From what we can see it is signed M. Hall, Hannibal, MO. The details on this Secretary are absolutely wonderful! This beautiful Secretary is constructed of mahogany. And flame mahogany over a secondary wood and the details are exquisite! The bookcase top is graced with a beautiful open arch top with a lovely center foliate carved pedestal that is surrounded on each side with elegant applied scroll land leaf adornments. The bookcase top doors have wavy glass that appears to be original. And three adjustable shelves. The doors have arched tops with picture frame moulding around the original glass and carved foliate escutcheons. The right door has an intact lock and a decorative(non-working) key is included to assist in opening the doors. Also. You will note that there is a small, insignificant scratch on glass in the lower corner of the right door which in no way impacts the beauty or integrity of the original wavy glass. Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony. The desk is a reproduction made by the Maddox Table Co. of Jamestown, New York. This desk comes right out of the New England estate. The desk has those wonderful features most folks are looking for, such as all-wood drawers with dovetail corners, and clawed feet. The hardware and locks are the originals that came with the desk, not replacements. The desk was in my family for around 60 or so years, so the desk dates to at least 1950, and it may be older than that- I'm just not sure. The desk is the slant-front style, hinged at the bottom, so it opens up and the front lays flat to become the writing surface; the desk front can be locked. When the desk front is opened and lowered into the writing position, two arms come out automatically to support the writing surface. Inside the desk there are 3 small drawers, and holders for stashing letters and so forth. In the center of the opened desk, inside, there is a closed compartment with no lock; the compartment door is scratched. There are 3 drawers below the writing surface that extend almost the full width of the desk, and each one of them can be locked. These drawers have a graceful bow front(see photos) Above the desk itself is a prominent feature, a bookcase with 2 shelves covered by hinged glass doors that swing out and can be locked. The bookcase doors do not line up 100% vertically when closed, a common problem with these desks. This doesn't mean that you can't close them or lock them when closed, but it is something I should point out. Above the bookcase is decorative trim with a twin swan&#
