It measures 16" by 9" by 4 1/2" The exotic wood veneer(possibly ... moremahogany) has a very dramatic and variable grain that ranges from amber to black. The exquisite top features a radiant Mother of Pearl Cartouche( 2" by 1" with no engravings or markings) It has eight Mother of Pearl Discs that are positioned near the corners. The discs are connected by pewter'stringing lines' to form two rectangles on the top. I believe that the two shortest pewter'stringing lines' on the ends of the inner rectangle may be replacement pieces. There are also four Mother of Pearl discs on the front of the box. Connected by pewter'stringing lines' These also form a rectangle. The escutcheon has an inlay that is a bone color. But does not appear to be Mother of Pearl. The top opens to reveal a green velvet fabric-covered writing slope which appears to be original. There are five separate compartments for ink wells. Nibs, wax, stamps etc. There is also a removable concave pen tray with storage space beneath it. The green velvet-covered'top partition' pulls down with a black grosgrain tab to expose a storage compartment. The storage compartment measures 14 1/4" by 7 1/4" For stationary. The green velvet-covered'bottom partition' pulls open with a black grosgrain tab to expose a storage compartment. This storage compartment measures 14 1/4" by 5" For letters. The hinges and fittings are brass and there is a flush brass handle on each end of the box. The desk retains the original photograph from when it was retailed by Jacques Bodart, Inc. during the first quarter of the 20th Century, noting this as#1681. It is a gorgeous piece, the original gilt highlighted tooled green leather preserved in remarkable condition, framed in well patinated molded mahogany over five drawers. The desk rests over four tapered and stop-fluted legs with square brass caps over each leg and terminating in plain brass capped feet. Jacques Bodart. Inc. crafted very fine reproductions of Louis XVI 18th and 19th Century antique furniture, marketing these to interior designers and decorators around the country from their showroom in New York City. This is a simply outstanding selection, only more so due to the fine patina and character developed throughout, perfect for home decorators and those passionate about original French designs. Measurements: 55 1/8" wide x 28 1/4" deep x 30" high; wings are 12 3/4" across when fully extended. 21 5/8" deep. Condition Report: Nice patinated and almost certainly original surface. Sunbleached on the front and sides, color well preserved in the back. Very minor dings and abrasions here and there throughout, including minor blemishes and stains to the leather top. No key. 4 wood feet for a pedestal table that I believe are oak but I am not a wood expert so please look at the pictures carefully. Because of the right angle V cut in the heel. I believe these are for a square pedestal which might make them a mission style foot. They measure approximately 1 ⅝" thick and 15 ⅛" long from toe to heel. 3 ⅞" wide at the toe and 6 ¾" at the heel. When mounted to a pedestal, the top of the heel will be approximately 8 ¾" from the floor without casters. They are in fair condition and partially stripped. You are invited to bid on an ornate- ONE OF A KIND- carved panel(walnut or mahogany not sure) It measures approx 53 in. long. 10 1/2 wide and 1/2-5/8 in. thick. The center is highly carved(spoon carving) with detailed flowers and leaves across the entire panel. The carved portion measures approx 49 by 7in. This is a heavy piece, weighs almost 10 lbs. before packing. The panel edges are beveled to slip on adjoining panel(tounge& grove) and the beveled tounge has splits that can be glued or removed based on your intended usage. The outer edge also has several splits that do not effect the structure of the panel that can be glued for an invisable repair. This finely carved panel exemplifies the craftsmanship of days gone by. It has a rich patina with deeply carved leaf design& nicely beveled edges Approx measurements are 5 in. wide. 48 in. long and 2 in. thick at the widest point. The carving is clean and deep with the wide edge being skillfully tooled. This peice graced my fireplace under the mantle for 30+ years adding charm and grace to the room. advertising furniture child's mug
Up for auction i a vintage child's advertising mug recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area. It is found in good used condition and advertises Levitz Furniture Co, Pottstown, PA. Levitz Furniture latter became a national chain. This child's mug features a boy and girl on a tetter todder with a doll and ball. The base is signed in gold, Levitz Furniture Co. Pottstown,PA. It has two tiny factory flaws, one on the lip and the other on the base which was glazed over. There is also some extra paint under the boy. Please see the photos for details.
